Played it for the first time recently and was shocked at how unlike its successors it is. Instantly thrilling and casually completable in a couple hours vs boring until you get the double jump or whatever and 40 hours long
All these years of “metroidvania” and yet arguably the original was never surpassed

John I’m playing Gungrave Overdose right now and it’s a sequel to a game with no tutorial. They start this game with an overlong tutorial level to explain a moveset that’s less complex than the first game’s. Not a good sign!
