Oh looking forward to it! :)
We talked at the annual conference of Committee on Migration Research of Polish Academy of Science abt ongoing humanitarian crisis on Poland-Belarus border, especially after the suspension of right to asylum, introduced by the pro-european & liberal Civic Coalition. All quiet on the Eastern border.
But hey - if anyoneβs looking for a keynote on SchrΓΆdingerβs migrant, I might just be your person ;)
Perks of being an interdisciplinary migration scholar?
- your inbox gifts you with an invitation to share your βexpertiseβ at very weird conferences.
Do I work on migration, borders, and such? Yes.
Do I understand quantum entanglement? Only in the metaphorical sense ;)

--> we know this support is crucial. Barring it would hit the most vulnerable hardest.
It's NOT about privilege, as the president claims, but abt reparative justice. Talking about βoverprivilegedβ refugees only shows how little one understands of refugee reality.
Heading into holiday mode, but with unease abt what awaits after. The presidential veto on extending financial support for Ukrainian refugees in Poland leaves many in uncertainty. From fieldwork in collective accommodation centres in PL, -->

Come say hi! π www.iccees2025.org
Migration folks - this excellent book is now free on kindle as I just learned! And it is excellent companion to all those of you working on migration to rural areas! Spread the words :) @cmr-warsaw.bsky.social
Amazing! Thank u for letting us know!
Everytime we talk abt the hostilities and human rights violations on the PL-BY border it is challlenging to us, but immense gratitude to @badaczkinagranicy.bsky.social for making this together and supporting one another β
What an amazing panel we just had at @associationruta.bsky.social annual conference abt unequal citizenship within and outside of Ukraine! We talked abt Ukr Roma experiences as IDP & forced migrants in Poland, with our colleaques, co-workers and co-thinkers, very grateful for all contributions! πβ€οΈπ
Finally, broader recognition is still due for the efforts and contributions of Romani civil society in defence of Ukraine and humanitarian relief. Hats off to all the amazing speakers, as well as to the great moderation and organisation @terezahendl.bsky.social πͺ
Referring to limited and belated work on collecting testimonies of Romani survivors of WW2, it is also is part of the social responsibility of researchers in knowledge production not only abt but first and foremost FOR Roma communities! πβ€οΈπ
Very moved by this great opening panel at annual @associationruta.bsky.social conference. Our colleaque within #rocit project, #TetianaStorozhko talked abt importance of collecting testimonies & documenting Romani experience of war and displacement.
We invite you for this online event, which is a cooperation between UNET@ZOiS and KIU: Ekaterina Bataeva, KIU sur place research fellow together with Daria Yashkina, UNET fellow, will talk about the situation of Ukrainian academics and universities under attack in frontline cities.
One would think that our universities would be a bit smarter than that, wouldn't you? And yet we thought it to be incredibly smart to give all our data to Microsoft...

From a reviewersβ life: It is quite amazing as it happened for the first time - I just reviewed a paper, andβ¦ it is good. I cannot think of any ways to improve it, suggest sth, it doesnβt lack methodologically, theoretically, it holds together. What a day! ;) #academicpublishing #reviewing
On World Refugee Day I am thinking of ppl we met during our fieldwork in PL & UKR - Ukrainian Roma. Their experience of refuge widely differes from that of other refugees from & within Ukraine, here are some reflections by our team from Poland: www.migracje.uw.edu.pl/wp-content/u...
With my modest contribution in a form of a book review - time to chill and read ππ from a venue located really at the heart of the theme of this SI, how cool is that! #lowersilesia #niederschlesien #dolnyΕlΔ sk π
Thank u! ππͺ
Finally, this paper is both painful and powerful reflection on the experiences gathered by my co-workers and colleagues from the ROCIT (rocit.pl) project, both as activists and researchers. Especially today, it stands as a stark reminder of how dearly we need solidarities. Now more than ever.
Second, this bottom-up mobilisation affirms Polish Romaβs long-contested belonging to both the state and the nation. In doing so, it grants them the right to have claims - to voice concerns, call out racist and antigypsyist practices in refugee reception, and to demand change.
The erasure of minoritiesβ contributions from collective memory persists, effectively reinforcing long-standing stereotypes of Roma as passive or disengaged. Such narratives remain remarkably resilient, even when directly contradicted by evidence of active involvement and solidarity.
First, by engaging in nationwide refugee relief efforts, Polish Roma enact their citizenship. Yet their involvement risks being rendered invisible under the broad narrative of "Polish aid." This is precisely where the practical consequences of methodological nationalism become evident:
We then focused on the transnational and bottom-up mobilisation of Polish Roma in response to the unequal treatment of Ukrainian Roma - both as a claim to have rights and a right to have claims.
Ukrainian Roma are claiming their rights - including the right to mobility justice - simply by crossing the border, enacting their (Ukrainian) citizenship, and experiencing firsthand how the temporary protection framework for Ukrainian citizens is reluctantly extended to (Ukrainian) Roma.
