Thoughts on the relations with Dijinkstra et al 2022's proposed concept of perceptual reality monitoring?
@dbrang.bsky.social The Brang lab at UMich has an unpublished case study on a synaesthete with something similar! This could all fit together!

yeah Galton was big in psych & stats! yet as Darwin's cousin he was super into the genetic/heritability component of all of the traits he was studying.

unfortunately galton is actually the og evil scientist that tried to breed superhumans when he noticed that synesthesia (perceptual phenomenon) is hereditary.

i also have hot takes on how public interest in what knowledge is and how it's produced aligns with open access debates, publication industry hoarding, and the growing emphasis on public engagement outside of the academy
great thread!
academia is all about the balance of knowledge consumption versus production. what does it mean to be an "expert" in your field in an era where the internet "knows" all?
Hey #academicsky, what is your best tip for staying on top of new literature?? π©βπ»
I just started using Stork for weekly pub round-ups π So far I like it better than google scholar alerts because of the keyword features, but I'm also open to any new tools & suggestions!π΅οΈ

Very interesting paper! Doesn't directly mention synesthesia but does discuss the popular inhibitory feedback theory. Any thoughts on the implications for synesthesia mechanisms?
