such a complex region where events like this aren't surprising to a majority of people, where suffering is the norm and sometimes hope is captured in the image of exploding american military bases, but the civilian death toll will always be a steep cost when fighting powers that deem you subhuman

and like you said, they're most likely not living and enjoying life whatsoever. just the opposite if they refuse to explore anything beyond their narrowminded view of the world and their dangerous echochamber. like in a religion, you never want to be challenged, just followed and listened to

it's also just absurdly fascinating that western fandoms seem to struggle with this the most, particularly since, speaking from experience, that education has become cripplingly low and we *are* experiencing the impact of what the pandemic has done to people of mine (and younger!) generations

i've also seen brief stories of how these very groups that serve to call out and disparage creatives for any morally ambiguous stories they dare to explore, and how there's individuals in these groups that do not feel the same way but are compelled to follow these "rules" of being "not problematic"

there absolutely is a colonizer element to this because i've seen how americans speak about how *weird* and how much better their fiction is compared to *other* representation of fiction i.e how western creatives that write gay stories put down the yaoi genre because of its more problematic leanings

it's fascinating because i feel as though it's not religion itself that pushes people to do this, but they do apply its fundamental doctrines to belittle and bully other queer artists and creatives for not being the "holier and righteous" individual in a way that makes them feel superior

stories, in their essence, are supposed to explore the full spectrum of the human experience, no matter how immoral. you're allowed to feel uncomfortable, allowed to even block and avoid certain topics, but what you're not supposed to do is harass and call out creators over this disagreement

not sure where this trend in western circles has stemmed from that a flaw or a morally abhorrent trait incorporated into a certain character reflects the artist than the characters themselves. as if artists are all mindless idiots that are incapable of separating themselves from their stories

starting shit. it's so, so tiring. you can also plead and beg people to do otherwise, to stop interacting with bad faith arguments that are farming engagement, but they won't listen since the algorithm itself encourages this. ughghghhghhg really no neat and tidy solution to this, drives me insane

something else entirely. like the fact that even sc week isn't that popular anymore is a glaring reflection of how much yaoi ships in general are ostracized if they don't fit into the neat tiny box of "unproblematic", and even then, there are still things you'd get harassed over bc people like

touching grass has truly become a core component in maintaining your sanity and not adopting the reactionary methodologies that a majority of western fandoms have adopted bc c'mon man... it's just consistently tragic seeing what was once supposed to be a haven for marginalized morphing into

like why are people so bored in fandoms nowadays that they stir up controversies instead of idk.... making fandom wide events like zines or bigbangs. feel like social media has just now programmed everyone to treat others with insignificance bc of the divide a screen provides

the only motivation nowadays to log in and post is just to keep up with friends i've already made long before the evisceration of twitter... it just feels like everyone is so reactionary, and if you don't think x then you're probably y and i'm blocking you without hearing you out like. Man

while twitter has gotten progressively worse over the years, it genuinely makes me lament how atm there is no social media that feels "social" anymore. it feels like a one-way mirror where you see things but are incapable of creating genuine interactions/relationships anymore

"don't put all your eggs in one basket" but they forget that each basket is riddled with holes and one breath away from disintegrating, and the eggs you've poured into them will crack upon the ground and you'll keep refilling it to no avail
