Whoop. So delighted that this is now out. "Beauty that glows: Tho-Radia and radioactive cosmetics"
I started working on Tho Radia in 2012 but this is the first time I have written about the company in depth which is ridiculous. Might have to do some more now as there is still a lot to say ....
Enough politics. It is publication day for the paperback edition for The Far Edges of the Known World; it's a book that has been described in reviews as both strikingly and refreshingly original.
So if you fancy reading about the ancient world from a different perspective - give it a read!
Cover of book with text in yellow reading: The Firearm Revolution: From Renaissance Italy to the European Empires, overlaid on an image of an angel in seventeenth-century dress with wings and a long gun.
Hello Bluesky! My new book, THE FIREARM REVOLUTION, is out on 14 April. Itβs about how a new technology changed society, and how hard it was to control. Hereβs a little thread of whatβs inside:
I loved writing this article about art deco, transports and the interwar years. It brings together some of my real passions!
If you find this interesting then the exhibition at London Transport is definitely worth visiting, or join @artdecosocuk.bsky.social :-)

I have some of his (branded) home gym equipment that belonged to my uncle. Itβs good quality stuff - If somewhat rusty now unfortunately. Havenβt tried the programme but have drunk radium water.
Book proposal complete! Just need to find an agent, and a publisher...and write the book...
Alison Settle was a remarkable woman who was the most renowned fashion journalist of her day. She was a feminist, a war correspondent, and shaped the taste of a nations. She also coped with huge 1/2
Plenty of that!
That sounds great actually!

Havenβt shared much about this yet but my next book is about the making of Some Like It Hot. My agent always said think about what gets you angry - and the tales around Marilyn are definitely one of those things so have reassessed and come to a much more nuanced and interesting story (I hope!)
Ah, itβs always been a favourite of mine so am a bit biased :)

Black and white newspaper clipping of a photo of George Patey holding a brick and his foot on a partially reconstructed wall. Behind him is an old fashioned 1920s style car.
I just wrote 'The History of Some Bricks (Happy Valentine's Day)' for my newsletter subscribers but you can also take a look if you like bricks or massacres or visitor attractions that are also urinals its all here buttondown.com/lucyjanesant...

Combining images of fog & smog with ideas of British identity made the reality of pollution much harder to see, says @michellehenning.bsky.social
Ooh this sounds fascinating.
Yeah it did a lot of things *better* than was possible before.
*definitely donβt
Am not sure* I agree with the whole AI is like radium takes I keep seeing at the moment.
Itβs my beloveds #botd

Years ago - a friend glancing into the open window of a passing car and on locking eyes with the occupant in the back seat βfuck me, itβs the queenβ
Went out for dinner with friends who are staying over as well. One has gone to bed and the other is now on a zoom call. #rockandroll
