It's an old saying - cities aren't noisy. Cars are noisy.
It's an old saying - cities aren't noisy. Cars are noisy.
That must be new. I've definitely used it much later before. Another degradation in the quality of life. Bike parking there is also almost impossible to find.
Public toilets at Old Town in San Diego are only open 6 hours each day.
Public restrooms in Old Town in #SanDiego are open a whopping 6 hours a day! That should be a much bigger deal than whether there's a cost for public parking.
if only there were 3 other parallel freeways
San Diego,
Graphic of busy car-filled road and text stressing that car dependency is the opposite of freedom. Mobility freedom comes from mobility choices. Graphic by the Urban Truth Collective.
Gas price hikes & shortages “fuel” controversy, especially when they’re “driven” by an illegal war. But let’s not forget one of the most important discussions that should flow from such hikes — how they spotlight the difference between places with mobility choices, and places that are car-dependent.
Ask me for help converting some or all of your driving to transit in San Diego. If I’m unable to give you a good answer, I will suggest actions you can take to oppose Newsom’s and the legislature’s suicidal insistence on car dependency.
yes please
Just imagine,
“As Freeways overflow, Caltrans bans SUVs and large trucks”
being a carless american is awesome. financial harm caused by rising oil prices won't directly effect me, and secondary effects aren't something we are trained to think about. when the time comes i'll just blame the rising prices i do experience on supernatural causes. maybe goblins
how it feels taking public transit rn
That's such a good preview picture. Safe biking infrastructure is cheap, just add bollards!
"creating a protected bike route on the road, while retaining two-way traffic, would be “prohibitively expensive""
Bike infra isn't expensive, maintaining high speed car access on every possible road is expensive.
Having 2way car traffic is expensive, why isn't it framed like that?
That's why it's important to support the adoption of ebikes.
Also there are plenty of routes between popular places which are flat and could use safe infra like between downtown and the beach.
The greatest thing we can do for national security, energy independence, and reducing healthcare expenses is to:
1. Re-legalize building apartments/plexes every urban city 🏘️
2. Low-interest (2-3%) loans to infill developers
3. Fund transit with sub 15 min. frequencies 🚍
4. Give everyone an E-Bike ⚡🚲
🫡
Almost everything in San Diego is in biking distance from everything else.
North Park, downtown, the beach, the healthcare district in Hillcrest, Balboa Park etc..
We need to make it safe and welcoming for bikes and ebikes, so that people have alternatives to paying for gas.
💯, it's gotten so bad for pedestrians!
I'm tired of how the affluent San Diego neighborhood I live in has no respect for how pedestrians are entitled to the right of way. So much rudeness in glamorous areas.
Here in Memphis, TN, have seen a $0.35/gallon increase over the last 3 days. It is insane! Still, people drive their huge vehicles, usually with one person, and never think about the consequences of their financial and environmental choices, until now.
🫡
As a person who lives car-free, the effect this has on me is negligible.
And I hope this spurs more people to demand walkable, bikable, transit-friendly places to live. Fossil fuels have always been a threat to national security and our pocketbooks
The same people will watch american football which features some of the most ridiculous looking outfits in all of sports, including tight pants and not think anything of it.
Yes, but what if we have to remove a few car parking spaces to make room for bus lanes, bike lanes, or pedestrian corner extensions? Let’s not get hasty here
Drivers in San Diego just threw a massive months long temper tantrum over partial paid parking in Balboa Park.
Some of the exact same people who said they "need to go to Balboa Park" have since told me "we don't need bike lanes bc bikes are for recreation." 😡
b/w sticker on a green pole WEVE MADE IT SO THAT AUTOMOBILES CAN GO EVERYWHERE AT THE EXPENSE OF CHILDREN GOING ANYWHERE ROVÉLO CREATIVE
The Expense.
This need to be called out at perpetuating sexist policies that privilege bikers without child carrying, errand running responsibilities. Caltrain would never consider banning kids from trains, why is it ok to make it impossible for parents who travel bike to use the system?
every day
where else are they supposed to park?
For decades, NYC has run one of the largest, most unacknowledged welfare programs in its history, for suburban car owners.
By giving away 3 million street parking spaces of expensive public real estate for free, it’s a multi-billion dollar annual wealth transfer that drives up city debt
