Why do plant shops only sell the boring cacti? I'm tryna find more bodyguard cacti for Churro's viv to keep a certain turd cat away but all the cacti plant shops sell are just jujubes with spines like Mammillaria & Echinocactus, none sell the hecka weird/cool ones like Cereus forbesii spiralis. 🌵🏜️🐍

⭐️Today I witnessed:⭐️
- Churro eating a pinky mouse ALMOST right in front of me! (I walked out for a moment, returned, & his prey was gone!)

- Churro YAWNING (cuteness implosion, agh.)

- I found a Churro poop, the first one that I have ever seen. 😌

I sort of beat the shit out of my one boy, who inconveniently lives in a world without modern medical technology. 🫠

- Longterm malnutrition & starvation
- Catastrophic leg fracture
- Complex arm fracture
- Chronic anxiety due to genetics as well as circumstances
- I almost kill him a few times too.

I kinda struggle with my LFS due to their prices; I hate their prices for equipment & consumables like salt but they generally have really good fish & invertebrate prices, plus I buy Churro's prey from them. I wish I could buy everything from them but their markups are just... owww.

And I know LFS ('local fish shop') have less buying power, but there's a non-chain fish shop/LFS on the coast whose prices are extremely similar to Petsmart. The only reason I don't buy salt from them is because salt is heavy so shipping is expensive.

Meanwhile Petsmart is a half hour drive away.

Holy shit. Petsmart sells the exact same 50 gallon bag of Instant Ocean salt that my LFS sells for $50 for $23.

The 160 gallon bucket my LFS sells for $100 is $66 at Petsmart.

My LFS' excuse for the huge markup is convenience. 😑 With next day shipping being a thing... that doesn't track.

And maybe the antibiotics & gunk livestock often have in them would weird predators out too.

(I'm contemplating reasons for Larch to be bemused by cattle, having never seen them before, & reasons for coyote Sedge to say that he/his family don't consider cows food.)

I was thinking about it & although we know canids love rolling in nasty shit diarhrea is usually a universal code for disease, so cows with their nasty rear ends would look pretty suspicious to an intelligent wild predator. & they may target sick/weak animals but if the whole herd is yuck? I'd nope.

I have a headcanon that maybe one of the reasons wild predators like wolves & cougars statistically don't tend to touch livestock much (apart from generational knowledge of 'humans will murder us if,') that some of them probly find cattle kinda disgusting with their poop-spattered butts.

I saw a domestic dog eating from a large (cow/horse/elk-sized) carcass beside a stream in a pasture last fall & I'm constantly kicking myself demand that my brother stop so that I could get a photo of it.

A series of photos of my marine nassarius snails doing nassarius snail things (mostly attempting to mooch off of food dropped by my fish.) Note the red cyanobacteria - it's actually beginning to clear up! It used to look FAR worse so honestly I'm quite stoked!

My wonderful cleaner wrasse Ribbon, whose thin silvery gold-to-blue body resembles her namesake, inspects a nassarius snail which has cruised up the front glass. A second after I took this picture she knocked it off of the glass back onto the sandbed below, giving me a good laugh.

Also, a fun observation from my aquarium the other day: I thought that I had three nassarius snails roaming it but it turns out that I actually have FIVE! I'm honestly kinda baffled & amazed that my population is so high! I remember adopting four of them... but not five. 😂

My reef fish swarm a mesh pouch containing a folded piece of nori seaweed. Clearly visible, there is a goldish brown coloured scopas tang named Espresso, a bluestreak cleaner wrasse named Ribbon, an orange ocellaris 'nemo' clownfish named Moby, and the orange face of my sixline wrasse Tangelo.

Anyone else ever just look at their pets & just feel incredibly honoured that you get to share your life with them? Every time I interact with my cats Casper & Keplar, catch my rosy boa Churro spying on me or witness my shoal of reef fishes' excitement at seeing me every morning I feel so happy.🥹❤️❤️❤️

Small fluffy orange and white tabby cat Casper peers at me to determine whether or not I have obediently moved to follow him yet from our hallway.

Casper mid-mew as he lectures me about bedtime law compliance. Purrington law states, as governed by the late high lord Copernicus, that all humoms must migrate towards bed at exactly 8 PM so that feline citizens may use her body as their heated mattress. All citizens, including humom, must snuggle together during nocturnal hours.

Having determined that I don't seem to be moving yet, Casper retreats in order to meow at my dad instead in the hopes that he will help enforce his (Casper's) kingdom's laws.

Casper believes strongly in the sanctity of bedtime & he appears to meow at me promptly at 8 pm, with his lectures increasing steadily the further past that time that I dare to stay up late. How dare I disobey the small fluffy lord of my household! How dare!

He's too cute to disobey for long. 🥹❤️❤️❤️🐾
