The Ottawa St. Patrick’s Day Parade is happening today, Saturday, March 7, and downtown is ready to go green.
The parade travels from Wellington to Sussex and through the ByWard Market

Great to join so many community leaders, colleagues and residents this morning for a breakfast celebrating the incredible women who help shape our city.
With International Women’s Day coming up it was a meaningful opportunity to come together and celebrate the women who make Ottawa stronger.
Residents can request an electronic Hydrant Hero certificate, and students can also receive confirmation of community involvement hours.

You can help by clearing at least one metre of snow around the hydrant and making a path to the street. Please avoid piling snow on or against hydrants when shovelling.
If you’re unable to clear the hydrant near you, call 3-1-1 for assistance. Anyone can be a Hydrant Hero!

With significant snowfall still on the ground and more expected, residents are encouraged to help keep fire hydrants clear and accessible. When seconds count, firefighters need quick access to hydrants to respond to emergencies.

By reducing food waste, we support our health, our budgets, and our communities.
A little planning can go a long way:
• Choose local winter produce like apples, root vegetables, and cabbages for longer shelf life
• Use the “first in, first out” method in your fridge
• Store food properly to keep it fresh longer
• Freeze leftovers such as soups, casseroles, and cooked grains
It’s a great time to reflect on how the foods we eat support our overall well-being — and how thoughtful planning can help reduce food waste, stretch our grocery budgets, and support our environment.
During Ottawa’s colder months, shorter days can affect how we shop and cook.

The City of Ottawa and EnviroCentre are offering free trees to eligible residents through two options: pick up a tree to plant yourself through the City-Wide Tree Distribution, or receive full-service tree planting if you live in a priority area for tree canopy.
