The alpine caves where they congregate have been monitored for thousands of years by Indigenous Australians, but the lowland breeding grounds remain unknown.

The Herald Sun seems to be confusing cultural burning with fuel reduction burning in order to have a go at First Nations people.

They really are great trucks (we have an Iveco heavy tanker and I feel like I'm driving a regular 4WD when out bush, it handles so well).
Am a day & a half into my current fire driving course, driving a mix of tankers. After a big week at work I was incredibly cranky about spending my weekend learning about trucks. But geez I learnt a lot. Every course makes you more useful on the fireground.
Wonderful: work starts on a 100% publicly owned 205 megawatt (MW) wind farm in Gippsland.

Not a surprise, but still. Damn. AFAC, the National Council for fire and emergency services, has released the Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for Autumn 2026.
It identifies a heightened risk of bushfire in NSW, Victoria & WA.
We would love to hear your views about why fire seasons are getting worse. And who should pay for the damage.
Same here in Australia. There used to be summer snow patches on the Main Range of the Snowy mountains. Its rare nowdays. I miss the summer drifts.

Just in case there were any doubts about where Angus Taylor will take the Liberals.
His Chief of Staff Sam Riordan will be coming back to the Liberal Party fold after a stint working for Australian Energy Producers (the lobby group of big oil & gas).

The USA is being run as a Kleptocracy, so none of this is a surprise. But everyday there is some new scandal that, in normal times, would see the end of someone's political career.

Geez it's been a long summer. Lots of scrappy grassfires, but often on windy days, so they can get a bit of speed up.

Please support if you can.
One of ours from last year:
'Researchers have found that fire weather seasons are increasingly overlapping between eastern Australia & western North America.'

In bad fire seasons we rely on the northern hemisphere to support us. We do the same in return.
But climate change is messing with everything - incl making fire seasons longer.
This is the 1st season since 2019β20 where VIC has asked for international support.

thanks, I have updated the story to reflect that
This summer its been super dry in central & northern VIC so I have stayed close to home to be available to fight fires locally.
But my mind has been on the mountains.
Here is a quick summary of what happened this summer in the high country.
