Scientists tagging 10,000 bogong moths to solve mystery The project's success largely relies on citizen scientists spotting a distinct white dot on the wings of moths.

The alpine caves where they congregate have been monitored for thousands of years by Indigenous Australians, but the lowland breeding grounds remain unknown.

"By figuring out where they go from the mountains, we can understand the places we need to look out".

Bushfire detection just got a little bit easier with the help of AI cameras A pilot program at Gippsland’s Delburn windfarm has been using the technology since 2023.

'In DEC 2023, Australian-founded company Pano AI installed two of its fire detecting cameras at the site of the Delburn windfarm to survey the surrounding landscape.

The cameras can scan a 360 degree radius for smoke & other signs of fire'.

Works begin at state-owned, forest-based wind farm – starting with five firefighting water tanks Preliminary works kick off at SEC-owned wind farm in a Latrobe Valley pine plantation, including the installation of five 130,000 litre firefighting water tanks.

Wonderful: work starts on a 100% publicly owned 205 megawatt (MW) wind farm in Gippsland.

It identifies a heightened risk of bushfire in NSW, Victoria & WA.

Just in case there were any doubts about where Angus Taylor will take the Liberals.

His Chief of Staff Sam Riordan will be coming back to the Liberal Party fold after a stint working for Australian Energy Producers (the lobby group of big oil & gas).

Study finds global increase in hot, dry days ideal for wildfires Dangerous days have nearly tripled in past 45 years – and increase largely driven by human-made warming

'More than 60% of the global increase in synchronous fire weather days can be attributed to climate change from the burning of coal, oil & natural gas'.

Overlapping disaster seasons change the nature of emergency resourcing With fires and floods occurring simultaneously, and overlapping with international deployments, sharing critical resources is becoming an increasingly complex task.

In bad fire seasons we rely on the northern hemisphere to support us. We do the same in return.

But climate change is messing with everything - incl making fire seasons longer.

This is the 1st season since 2019–20 where VIC has asked for international support.

This summer its been super dry in central & northern VIC so I have stayed close to home to be available to fight fires locally.

But my mind has been on the mountains.

Here is a quick summary of what happened this summer in the high country.
