This past Friday, our Chair - Bruce Howe, discussed SMART Cables at the Impossible Things Workshop hosted by ARDITI. Together, we’re transforming oceanic science and strengthening tsunami and earthquake early warning systems.

Project TamTam between New Caledonia and Vanuatu is the world’s first SMART project. The environmental sensors will combat climate change, protecting our ocean ecosystems and marine wildlife, as well as save the lives of vulnerable people groups through advanced tsunami warnings.

The TamTam cable is the world’s first #SMARTCable led by France between New Caledonia and Vanuatu. This project will bring unprecedented insights into the New Hebrides Fault, one of the most seismically active ocean regions in the world. This initiative exemplifies the blue economy in action.

Over 50 participants joined the “10TH SMART Cables Workshop” in person, with 90 more online, to delve into the potential of #SMARTCables and foster synergies across communities.

A heartfelt thank you to the diverse countries and communities whose engagement made the Workshop a resounding success.

Tracking Marine Heat Waves - Eos Heat waves can happen in the depths, invisible at the ocean surface.

Tracking temperature changes in the deep ocean is difficult. The information provided by SMART cables would complement and provide additional resolution to other data sets that track these water temperature changes.
