Seth, I picked a helluva day to reactivate my social media before checking the news.
We'll see! Trump says a lot of things that are explained away by the media.
I think my point is that Americans are so used to hearing about American intervention that it doesn't register as a *war* unless there's a deployment.
Yes, a lot of people won't even call it a war if there aren't American boots on the ground.
American missiles have been striking the Middle East for decades. At this point, this type of missile-strike warfare is baked into American politics, and only a large troop deployment might get a reaction.
This is just a sad reflection of the fact that lots of Americans think it's their birthright to bomb other countries with impunity.
things every single republican president of your lifetime has done
- started a war in the middle east
- completely destroyed the economy
I'm back from a long hiatus and a Republican admin is starting a war with a Middle Eastern country over WMDs and calling for regime change.
American politics is just this meme over and over again.
It's striking that many Republican/conservative platforms are not very popular, yet the general public feels compelled to elect a Republican every few years to remind itself about this basic fact.
Awesome, congrats Rachel!
The Ruby Bridges painting is amazing, but very few paintings that I've seen in person have affected me as much as Norman Rockwell's "Murder in Mississippi."
Look, I'm a lefty-lib who taught at a university, a suburban public high school in a conservative district, and an inner-city community college over the last decade. I've never seen an ounce of this supposed censorious behavior from my students.
Bro what
God dammit, I need to go to bed, but how can you with Kershaw coming to the mound with bases loaded.
I know this is beside your point, but I've always contended that a PhD-granting institution should provide permanent library logins for their graduates.
Unlimited funding for guns but weird how we keep running out of butter.
Yes, please, I need to go bed. My toddler doesn't know what extra innings are and will not accept that as an excuse in the morning.
There is some *great* October baseball happening right now.
"I asked Chat GPT"
Well we asked an expert and then we asked other experts in that field to review the first expert's work.
One of the best jazz shows I've ever been to was the Duke Ellington Orchestra. I was in college and a total metalhead with a soft spot for jazz, and man, they blew me away.
Reconstruction bros have long understood that in the American context, "socialism" most often means "integration and equality" bsky.app/profile/bren...
But he got your crewmates killed? I don't recall the details. He was a very magnetic person. He taught me a lot about whales. I donβt know anyone who showed that level of curiosity. Well, next time someone brings up a terrible anecdote about The Pequod I will definitely drop the "whale facts" thing to show that people have two sides. Yeah.
[new Isaac Chotiner interview]
A representative for GWAR told The Post, "Normalizing violence? Humans don't need GWAR for that. There is nothing normal about the Looney Toon violence acted out on a GWAR stage. GWAR is absurdist spectacle. GWAR is to violence what the New York Post is to journalism. Ridiculous."
LOL
Pretty neat distillation of why it's dangerous to let companies consolidate control over TV stations.
*Eight years ago
I wrote this nearly right years ago and conservatives keep proving me right.
A lot of Democrats have spent so long punching left that it's become instinct. They can't even grasp that there's another path.
Itβs a terrific conference! Join us!
To quote former football coach Dennis Green:
"They are who we thought they were."
"Equally damning is that the Times, the Post, the Wall Street Journal.. havenβt chosen to make one singular story the dominant framing device of the past 6 months: The Trump administration is teeming with despicable gutter racists and President Trump and his cabinet are having them call the shots.."
