Comedy is what helps people make sense of the tragedy of life. If you don't laugh then you cry. And I'd rather create personas and jokes out of the ridiculousness of life because it means the world to me to make 1 person smile than cry. Even if it has the opposite effect on me.

You don't know why you are depressed but you feel like you shouldn't be, you don't deserve to be. You're a success but you're sad. And it doesn't make sense because making people laugh stops the pain. But back in the dressing room it hurts. A lot. And nobody wants to see that.
And as someone who hides a multitude of darkness behind comedy and been celebrated for his creations, my first thought isn't how I feel happy. It's always how I can give other people a laugh.

This breaks my heart. Doing club doors you often meet the most vulnerable people in the most chaotic environment who have slipped through the system. There but for the grace of god could any one of us be. The couldn't care less attitude of police forces towards protecting them still infuriates me.
