Poster titled BOYCOTT EAA-ATHENS, with a circle/slash crossing out the EAA 2026 Athens logo. This is an urgent call for all members of the archaeological community to join this boycott. Do not submit a session to the EAA until Eszter Banffy steps down as president of the EAA after her anti-democratic actions. There has been a concerted campaign of intimidation against individual members of the board, including large numbers of threatening and defamatory emails and individual participants, groups, and student volunteers have been intimidated. Even after close documentation of her shameful autocratic actions in the press and on social media, she refuses to step down. We cannot let this happen, this is not what we stand for as a community. Many departments and institutions already decided not to participate and submit sessions after it has become clear that the EAA has not resolved its issues. Do not submit a session until Banffy steps down. If you have already submitted a session, retract it.

This is not a BTC action but we are helping to disseminate this call, as the president of the EAA has shown great willingness for reprisals.
Please distribute widely, particularly to offline colleagues.

Coming (finally) with Oxford University Press this fall!
Working at the Allard Pierson Museum in Amsterdam this summer as co-curator on an exhibition about ancient and Transatlantic slavery. This is a sales contract of an enslaved; soul-crushing to see some of the objects we curate, but very grateful to be able to tell this story. More soon!
Our last of three keynotes revealed! 'Theory from below' by Masen Iwaisi, 'Just do Something' by Sadie Watson, and 'Fail Better' by Gabe Moshenska. Couldn't be happier about this line-up: great things come in three and TAG keynotes are multivocal. tag2025.hosted.york.ac.uk/en/keynote-s...
CALL FOR PAPERS! Proud to present our phenomenally creative, challenging, inspiring TAG session-programme! Hauntology, activism, river walks, Gaza, storytelling, development-led archaeology. In short: theory in action! (so submit a paper before August 1)

Setting up the classroom for a slow archaeology & storytelling workshop. I used two prehistoric objects (at least for the students): rotary phone and an ammonite :) Some amazing myths were made!
And it only gets better from there :)
I loved it! It's a wild ride you will not regret
That's the sweetest compliment! And I do feel that the majority of my work is taken up by chasing phantoms of some sort..
I was asked to appear on BBC Uncanny to say something about Roman ghosts in York! It was fun, though they cut all critical and nuanced comments on ghost stories and archaeology. Reduced to 10 sec. 'here is an archaeologist who points out a Roman road, so the story must be true'π lesson learnt.
Text on image: Keynote speaker Mazen Iwaisi, Queen's University Belfast. He has obtained his PhD from Queen's University Belfast on the concept of archaeo-politics in the making of the Palestinian National Spatial Plan βhis research centres on archaeology and cultural heritage and how they relate to spatial and urban planning.
It's time to announce our first keynote speaker for this year's TAG: Dr Mazen Iwaisi!
