I was super depressed in college and struggled to understand (or care about) the work. I also realised that a lot of my motivation as a child and teenager was more about appearing smart to others, since being "smart" was my way of earning love and admiration as a a small child
physics/math researcher academia dude person
turned out to be NOT FOR ME lol, I am never ever going to grad school and that's ok
i am still heavily in my "sardine phase"
