Salt Creek Falls is the 2nd tallest in Oregon at 286 feet. It's upper portion has a unique triangular pattern that's instantly recognizable. Yellow autumn leaves and dark green fir foliage frame this iconic waterfall.

A small bird with white chest, and chin, light brown wings and tail, with a marked black band round its neck is standing in shallow water a few centimetres from a light coloured and muddy shoreline. It's facing the right, and its only visible eye has a bright yellow ring round it. It also has a thin black mark going over its head from just above the eye.

A Tree Swallow

A small bird sits in a meadow and looks to the right. Its body is brown, its breast and face are white, and its upper plumage is dark brown. It has a broad black stripe across its eye and a V-shaped black stripe below its eye. It has grass seeds in its short beak.

A close-up of the distinctive drooping purple flower petals of a Snake’s Head Fritillary - Fritillaria meleagris. The small white patches on the petals have led the bloom to having been given many other names, including chess flower, chequered lily or daffodil. Other common names are frog-cup, guinea-hen flower, guinea flower, leper lily (because its shape resembled the bell once carried by lepers), Lazarus bell and drooping tulip. The background of this photograph is blurred in macro mode but shows a recently weeded garden border of soil and the green stalks of other plants. Camera: iPhone 15 Pro

A purple and white-flecked Snake’s Head Fritillary is now facing the sun and the petals have opened to reveal the long pale yellow stigma. The flowers are pollen-rich and attract bees and butterflies to help them reproduce. The background is of other plant’s green stalks and recently turned over dark brown soil. Fritillary has a Latin origin coming from fritillus “dice-box”, as the markings are similar to a chequer board. Camera: iPhone 15 Pro

Bought myself some Snake’s Head Fritillaries because I’m not sure last year’s made it through the winter. Anyway, you can never have too many of these delicate little flowers.
