A photo of the UK from space, showing clear skies. Ireland is looking very green and the Scottish Highlands are looking craggy . The seas are dark blue, though pale green patches are showing through, possibly shallow water or sand banks. This is a European Space Agency image taken by the Copernicus Sentinel-3 satellite on 2nd April 2025. See https://www.copernicus.eu/en/media/image-day-gallery/clear-skies-over-uk-and-ireland.

Where are the trees?
We have A LOT of this landscape and less than 4% native woodland. This should be a rich mosaic of habitats, moor, bog, woodland, montane scrubβ¦We force it to remain in this artificial state. We donβt need to give every inch of our uplands over to sheep, grouse and deer stalking.
