This is a reminder that you can oppose 1) antisemitism, 2) the Gaza genocide, 3) the October 7 attacks, and 4) the current assault on universities, at the same time, and with no contradiction.

Whether history repeats, or rhymes, I don't have a good feeling about Munich security conferences....(apologies to Twain)
Listened on pod this morning. Appreciated the discussion of his relevance or not to both cont and analytical phil.
Just re-upping this again because the Temu Trumps in the LNP insist on bringing every culture war here: the Morrison govt spent $20.8bn on consultants in its final year - the equivalent of 54,000 FT public servants. The private sector benefits with govt cuts. No one else.

The Scottish Sunday Herald TV guide featured this preview of the Trump inauguration.
Itβs fucking brilliant.
Yup, @jamellebouie.net has this exactly right. What these guys are celebrating/pursuing/yearning for is not masculine energy, it's *adolescent* energy. Drinking Red Bull, crushing Call of Duty, refusing to clean your room. It is indescribably pathetic. www.nytimes.com/2025/01/18/o...

Santos was fined $10,000 for spilling ~25,000L of oil off WA - it cost them less than a nursing degree.

Trying to imagine the meeting discussion that eventuated these decisions... π€¨

Welcome to 2025 in the English and UK higher education sector....
I have updated the Academic Workload Tracker for 2025. I strongly encourage all academics to track how long you actually work, and at what tasks. It's a crucial way to counter the deliberate wage-theft of obfuscatory university workload models.

Folks: please be diligent about not disseminating Ann Telnaes' cartoon in a way that she's not getting the clicks on it (until she says differently). Her IP matters now more than ever.
Make it go viral but make sure she benefits.

"Terminal politics brain"; love it! Applied to coverage by most, not all, journos, it unscores an approach to reportage more akin to that of competitive sport team strategies & respective fandom aliances, not something that has daily & material impact on the well being of both citizens & society.

"Bad governance in Australia and how to mitigate it"
Just found this article and key lessons are very relevant to countries beyond Australia. Well worth a read.
