When I was teaching here in Florence, my It. colleagues said I spoke too American; my American colleagues said I say words in typical Canadian fashion ( like "aboUt" ?!?), my English colleagues were more worried about their own north, south, east, west and in-between accents than aboUt 😂 me!

Works other way too.
On a bus in Florence, 1983 (1st year here - canadian raised). Elderly eng tourist asks for directions. I tell her. Before she gets off, she turns to me, smiles, and says "by the way you speak beautiful english". Was she thinking "for an Italian"?😂

I find it hopeless. Time spent discussing how much of nothing but waiting.
