In the last 20 years, the @protestinstitut.bsky.social has conducted more than 30 protest surveys at demonstrations. We have made this huge dataset now publicly available at @gesis.org.

We are looking for PhD students interested in a macro comparative perspective, how social policy reforms and their generosity affect the occurrence of social policy related protests in a large sample of African states, using LLMs and building on our work on automating PEA.

In a joint project with @sehaunss.bsky.social, we will analyze how social policy outcomes in Africa influence political contention and nonviolent political conflict. This involves a large protest events analysis of a large set of African countries using multimodal data.
