Thank you @moveon.org for your powerful and principled leadership.
Will the real Gavin Newsom stand up?
According to the California Governor Israel is not commiting genocide, but it might be committing apartheid, but college student protests on #Gaza should be limited, but maybe US military support for Israel should be ended.
@gavinnewsom.bsky.social π€
- Saudi Arabia and UAE devastated Yemen.
- Saudi Arabia and UAE enabled Israel's genocide in Gaza.
- UAE is backing a genocide in Sudan.
- Bahrain cracked down on its democracy movement.
- Egypt's dictatorship is keeping its country trapped in poverty.
But sure, tell me about "freedom."
"anti-American dictators" is doing a lot of work in this @nytimes headline.
7 of the Middle East's 9 dictators are backed by the United States:
Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Qatar, Oman, Egypt, Jordan.

The problem with war is that you eventually run out of other people's children.
Re killing Ayatollah Khamenei:
Remember when the US removed the Taliban from power in Afghanistan, and killed Saddam Hussein in Iraq?
How did that all go?
The future of this unnecessary and illegal war is completely unknown.
things every single republican president of your lifetime has done
- started a war in the middle east
- completely destroyed the economy
WSJ Opinion Trumpβs Best Foreign Policy? Not Starting Any Wars He has my support in 2024 because I know he wonβt recklessly send Americans to fight overseas. By J.D. Vance Jan. 31, 2023 2:21 pm ET

Israel, immediately after vaporizing a bunch of little girls:
70% of Americans did not want this war.

Don't buy the propaganda. The U.S. and Israel have zero interest in any kind of real freedom emerging in the Middle East. U.S. and Israeli policy is dedicated to blocking the very possibility of freedom in the region.
www.timesofisrael.com/liveblog_ent...
Real democracy would mean that the peoples of the Middle East would choose their own fates, rather than be dominated by U.S., Israeli, and Western interests.
11/
There is a reason why the U.S. is allied with seven of the Middle East's nine dictators. Real democracy in the Middle East would be a threat to Western power and control, and it would be a threat to Israeli dominance over and destruction of the Palestinian people.
10/
The goal is to either weaken Iran's government, or to replace it with a different dictator that is subservient to U.S. and Israeli interests.
9/
Is Iran's government horrible? Of course. Are they torturing and killing democracy activists? Yes.
But ask yourself: Who does Israel back as an alternative? The answer is another dictator - the so-called Iranian "crown prince" Reza Pahlavi, son of Iran's prior Shah, a dictator and a king.
8/
Israel's foreign policy is to maintain a permanent state of weakness amongst its neighbors. Any Middle Eastern government or society that is independent of U.S. and Israeli dominance and power is to be weakened or destroyed.
7/
Occam's razor is the principal that the simplest explanation for something is usually the correct one. In this case, the simplest explanation for the U.S. and Israel bombing Iran is that they want to weaken and destroy Iran's government.
6/
Israel has already bombed Syria, Lebanon, Qatar, Yemen, and Gaza, all with U.S. protection and support.. Now, once again, Israel and the U.S. are bombing Iran.
5/
And yet, this is exactly the propaganda that Trump and Netanyahu expect us to believe: that America and Israel are going to "help" the Iranian people by bombing them.
4/
As Americans, you and I would see this as madness. We would assume that it was a sarcastic headline in The Onion. And if it was a real proposal, we would see it as an extraordinary and existential threat.
3/
Imagine if they proposed "helping" the American people by bombing New York, bombing Washington DC, bombing Atlanta, bombing San Francisco, and on and on.
2/
<ON IRAN> Imagine if a foreign government told you or me that they wanted to help us stop Trump, and that they were going to do so by bombing us.
1/
Trump and HegsethΒ canβtΒ even justify their $1.5 TRILLION defenseΒ budget askβa staggering $500 BILLION INCREASE.
Congress should flat-out reject it.β¨Β
An unserious request like this invites waste and abuse, and risks blowing up the bipartisanΒ appropriationsΒ process altogether.
Every member must go on the record.
This vote will be like the Iraq war vote.
How about Rep. Mike Lawler and Rep. Josh Gottheimer debate with Rep. Thomas Massie on whether we should get into another war in the Middle East?
Skip the propaganda and join the people.

Grateful to my teammates at @publiccitizen.bsky.social and so many partners for making this possible.
3/ This is in significant part because "the US military and the US defense industry are in no position to use such a huge short-term infusion of funds effectively. There arenβt enough factories or skilled workers to build weapons that would consume that enormous sum."

2/ William Hartung and Ben Freeman of the @quincyinst.bsky.social describe Trump's proposal as "an invitation to unprecedented waste and fraud ..."
Trump is calling for a 50% increase in U.S. military spending -- $500 billion more for the United States Department of War.
This colossal waste of money would starve the American people of what we really need -- affordable food, housing, and healthcare.
But it's even more ridiculous than that.
