I mean, you can still refuse. No one can *make* you kill someone else if you don’t want to. But there are consequences for doing so in the military during a war, and you have to decide if those consequences are worth it in order to refuse the order.

It’s not as simple as just quitting your job, but I did see some of the discourse on it over in another thread where they were talking about orders to murder people. The military cannot *make* you kill people. Period.

A lot of people were discharged for refusing to get vaccinated. Some of them apparently got back in somehow. Or were discharged honorably.

That’s insane, but also, our system is still fair enough (as far as I know) that you can refuse to do something and not see jail for it. You’d lose all your benefits you’ve worked for, for however many years, but I think you could fight that if an order was unlawful. The psycho anti-vaxxers did.

That does seem to be a very common thing in navy vets specifically. I am extremely curious as to why. It fascinates me.

And cooks! Truck drivers. Comms people. Engineers. Mechanics. Supply. There’s a whole plethora of non-combat roles who only see combat when they are attacked. I was an Ammo Spec for a ln Apache/Blackhawk unit deployed in a support capacity for withdrawal/drawdown in Iraq.

I understand the Vietnam War left a lot of scars on the public, but that is an insane way to behave towards a stranger for wearing a military uniform. But I guess to these weirdos it’s the same thing as a swastika, becasue they’re irrational banshees who just want to scream at people.

During one of my first weekend drills I stopped at a gas station to get donuts on my way to base and got spit on by some insane lady who started screeching at me and calling me a baby killer. The clerk told her to leave and threatened to call the police. I was 20 and had never even been overseas.

That is absolutely untrue. We had a new recruit who joined our unit during his split ops, bragging about wanting to kill people overseas and we had him reported to the AG and he was separated entirely from service. Since he never finished training he didn’t get to claim benefits either.

I saw over on Threads but have yet to see anything being done about it.
