I'm over the god shit this administration is pushing. They are literally the least godly people around.

Disability Day of Mourning – Remembering the Disabled Murdered by Caregivers

Today is Disability Day of Mourning, remembering disabled people murdered by caregivers/family.

Any journalist who portrays these stories as anything short of murder is doing serious journalistic malpractice, yet it happens so often. disability-memorial.org

…experience. The characters are beautifully written, relatable and who you instantly fall in love with and want to root for. And it has a happy ending which we all want and can happen! It’s a book that I know many of my #chronicallyill and #disabled followers will love! Highly recommended! πŸ“š

…which there were plenty! The book covers everything from being seen as #InspirationPorn, #MedicalMisogyny and life with #ChronicPain through the loss of friendships, identity and purpose. It’s a true portrayal of life when you have an illness clearly written by someone who has first-hand…

It’s sad that #chronicillness, #chronicpain and #disability representation in books is rare. So, I get excited when I find it, and especially so when it’s good! #ItsAllInYourHead by @nordqvistbooks.bsky.social is such an excellent example. I highlighted so many passages that resonated with me….

Can someone remind me how to use β€œtags” on this platform? How I can find people who are posting about certain content? I feel like I never see anyone because you have to catch them exactly when they’re posting…

Yay! Ironically fake dating happens to be one of my least fav tropes, personally. πŸ˜… I think bc it can often feel very contrived & needs lots of suspension of disbelief. But here I was intrigued by how IAIYH used it to demonstrate a REALLY vital bit of disability oppression AND community support.

Also thanks to @ellatholmes.bsky.social for reposting Sabina's recent article, or I might not have looked for IAIYH at the library. BRB, gonna go order my own copy at my local indie bookstore and tell them to stuff their disability section with as many copies as can possibly fit. Bc OMFG this BOOK πŸ₯Ή

I have so much to say about It's All In Your Head, but none of them are coherent (see the aforementioned staying-up-to-4-am because it was too good and I just HAD to finish it). It's gonna be a low spoon day because I lost so much sleep but it was SO WORTH IT. @nordqvistbooks.bsky.social THANK YOU 😭

THIS BOOK IS A TREASURE. Finished @ 4am. Cried at least 5x just to feel so seen as a disabled + chronically ill person in a loving relationship. SO GRATEFUL FOR THIS BOOK. (And for the thorough CW, it def needed it.) But reading intense health care scenes from a disabled author hits SO differently!

Screenshot of the audiobooks app showing the book It's All In Your Head by Sabina Nordqvist, which has a lilac cover with a female character resting against some of the words and a male character with a cane resting against aome other letters. There are other symbols of their life dotted around, including a giant pill, a sleep eye mask, and a snowboard.

Today's another rough health day. So I'm grateful to fellow chronically ill and disabled authors who centre this kind of life in their stories.

"It's All In Your Head" by @nordqvistbooks.bsky.social is my current read and whilst I'm only one chapter in, I love it already.

In the concentration camp universe, this is what's known as a filtration camp. A government preemptively takes a whole class of people to interrogate and detain extrajudicially in order to inflict duress on them while arbitrarily assessing their (supposed) culpability.

Sabina’s book is excellentβ€”one of the most beautiful romance novels I’ve ever read. It’s on of those stories that stays in my head and my heart forever.
Her essay on disability in romance hit home for me. There IS room for our stories and for happily ever afters that include disability.

a sparkly snowy pale purple background with the cover of sabina nordqvist's novel it's all in your head in the center. the cover art is both main characters leaning against the title, shown texting each other on their phones. rep for the characters in the art includes a pill, a snowboard, a cane, and compression socks. the added graphic text says "happy release day! a debut romance featuring chronic illness" - nordqvistbooks.com

@nordqvistbooks.bsky.social on writing a romance novel that decenters the abled gaze: β€œBut I wasn’t having any meaningful interrogation of what stories I was consuming and why; I was simply desperate for any kind of representation where disabled characters didn’t die.”
