I couldn't find a tool to plot different #neuroimaging data in one consistent style, so I made one! Meet yabplot (yet another brain plot) - a #Python package for (sub)cortex & tracts.🧠
- Simple API
- Built-in atlases
- Custom atlas support

It's still 10 times better during sleep compared to wake. e.g we know pretty well what slow waves are from scalp to cell level.
As for the rest there is no consensus what brain osc are in all levels :)

Never say never :) We will not see place cells. But some papers have shown releveant spatial resoultion that can be used to show memory relevant memory rep. e.g Siclari et al 2017 Nat Neuro

A worm, H. miamia, appears to have a diffuse 'brain' without regional specialization. "Early brains may have arisen through the condensation of diffuse nerve nets into unregionalized brains, with regionalization evolving secondarily." www.biorxiv.org/content/10.1...

Maybe just go back to pen & paper? AI can probably transcribe the handwriting.

The U.S. Is Funding Fewer Grants in Every Area of Science and Medicine A quiet policy change means the government is making fewer bets on long-term science.

Under Trump, the NIH is giving fewer grants to fewer scientists. The grants awarded are smaller and scientists have less time to spend them.

Projects in cancer, diabetes, aging, neurological disorder, and more are going unfunded.

Why do we remember emotional events so vividly? Our new paper @nathumbehav.nature.com suggests that emotional arousal enhances memory by strengthening integration across large-scale brain networks! Led by the amazing @jadynpark.bsky.social & @ycleong.bsky.social! doi.org/10.1038/s415...

Pope Leo calls for news agencies to stand as bulwark against "post-truths," lies and manipulation Pope Leo XIV has encouraged international news agencies to stand firm as a bulwark against the "ancient art of lying" and manipulation.

Pope Leo quotes Hannah Arendt:

“The ideal subject of totalitarian rule is not the convinced Nazi or the convinced Communist, but people for whom the distinction between fact and fiction and the distinction between true and false no longer exist."

Here’s my Fluorescence Friday highlight: just got this beautiful shot from the locus coeruleus in our latest tissue section! You can see astrocytes (in green) glowing and wrapping around tiny blood vessels (in red), with pTau staining (in magenta) lighting up the scene. It’s wild how much is going on in just one microscopic field—so cool to see these markers all together and think about what they mean for brain health and Alzheimer’s research. Loving the chance to peek into these cellular hangouts each week! #FluorescenceFriday #PhDLife #Neuroscience

We think it means that there must be something critical for overnight memory consolidation about these phasic REM periods. What may that be? Stay tuned.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have ANY questions or comments on the manuscript (5/5)

Last, we extended the findings to an additional independent cohort (N=558), tying REM sleep changes to genetic AD risk (APOE). (4/5)

Then, we followed the same analysis on a subset from the Longitudinal Aging Sleep Study at Berkeley (N=61), which underwent deep imaging (MR, PET), and a classic overnight paired association memory task. (3/5)
