Having now rewatched Star Wars (I think only my second time through the whole film) I have come to the conclusion that the reason it does little for me is that it's not really *about* anything except its own characters and events.

Charlie Rich: I Feel Like Going Home "I Feel Like Going Home" by Charlie Rich is a Pullover song for me. When I first heard it in my car, it was so powerful I had to pull over my car to listen to it.

Rock critic Greil Marcus has called this version of Charlie Rich’s song about failure β€œthe strongest moment of Rich’s career β€” a match for Ray Charles’ β€˜Georgia On My Mind’ or Otis Redding’s β€˜Try a Little Tenderness’ and somehow more indomitable than either.” www.chimesfreedom.com/2017/11/12/c...

51 years ago today, David Bowie released Young Americans, a bold move into soul and R&B. Featuring the hit β€œFame,” co-written with John Lennon, the album helped spark Bowie’s breakthrough in the U.S. and showcased another turn in his ever-evolving sound.

I like this Ben Stiller fellow. When he made a movie in Wilmington, Ohio, he was nice to people. And look β€” he stands up for himself rather than allowing himself to be ritually humiliated.

in a movie filled with great moments, I can’t get over James Horner’s grand music swell under Ben Kingsley’s β€œcrash the whole damn system” speech in SNEAKERS.

movies just don’t have the confidence anymore to present a simple conversation with this much sense of grandeur.

Father Mother Sister Brother (Original Music From The Film)

We watched the new Jim Jarmusch film, "Father, Mother, Sister, Brother," last night. I liked the movie, but it was the soundtrack that really caught my ear. This lead-off track, a cover of "Spooky," is especially hip. Check this out when you have some time.

Funny thing about nights like this.

You start thinking about those who used to be part of the room. Not gone exactly… just someplace else now. Different streets. Different lives. But every once in a while something comes on the radio and suddenly they’re with you again.

Mm-hmm.

Let it ride.

Took a small step toward eventually making my 6 yr old daughter appreciate classic films by showing her a clip of Danny Kaye. After an initial reaction of "this is boring" because it was not modern, she became enthralled and started dancing to his song. youtu.be/kirBGyDJPxI?...
