New article by Anna Josephson and myself (and others) about the dangers of using satellite weather data in economic contexts. Users beware, your results might be a function of mismeasurement in the remotely sensed weather data! #EconSky url.usb.m.mimecastprotect.com/s/Lc8fCp9WNp...

It has been a long time coming, but the COVID and livelihood paper in Africa based on the MS thesis of
@aljosephson
and my great student Ann Furbush is finally out. #EconSky authors.elsevier.com/a/1kg8015oGp...

So what is wrong with the papers? Why not ask for a retraction or inform your followers what the issues are? Just removing yourself doesn’t do anything to address the corruption of the scientific record from these published but fraudulent papers.

The first question was β€œwhat is your university?” The second question was β€œwhat is your rank?” The third question was β€œwhat is your field of study?” If that wasn’t enough the fourth question asks for your exact teaching/research/service/admin/extension split.

πŸ“‰πŸ“ˆ what do you do when you get a β€œculture of the profession” survey via a listserv and the informed consent promises β€œanonymity” but the first 3 survey questions would allow for immediate identification of respondents? Do I call their IRB and report them?

The law suit by Gino to silence those who uncovered her fraud is akin to any person in power trying to scare off a whistle blower. And that she would blame her RAs is even more distasteful. If they did all the work then why are you an author and they aren’t?πŸ“ˆπŸ“‰

Enjoyed seeing everyone at AAEA. This was my first conference in a long time in which I didn’t present. It was nice to be able to just focus on all the great new research others are putting out there! πŸ“ˆπŸ“‰

In particular, I appreciate that you provided a reason for your desk rejection so that I can better target the paper for another journal. I realize it must have taken a lot of late nights of reflection during those 2+ months to arrive at this decision. πŸ“‰πŸ“ˆ

πŸ“‰πŸ“ˆ @WorldDevJournal, just got your desk rejection. I know it took you 68 days from submission to rejection. But the quality of your editorial comments made it well worth the wait.

At the very least he was pacifively abusive. Same as Brian Wansink. Nobody will trust that the work of there students is accurate.

I have a theory with 5 hypotheses.

I pilot a study; only 3 of the 5 seem correct.

I preregister only these 3 and proceed as if I never considered the other 2.

I find strong support for all 3.

Is this good science (i.e., an appropriate use of preregistration)? Why or why not?

Are there any fuzzy RDD papers that additionally interact treatment assignment with a proxy for the propensity to comply with the assignment?

Can we gain power with this?

I have a solo-authored paper in World Dev that looks at intensity of input use broken out by input and crop in India over 1976-2009.

Dill is only acceptable on food when in Scandinavia. Don’t serve me dill on my Avo toast when it’s 110 in AZ and I won’t serve you mango on your salmon soup when it’s -40 in Finland.

Real wages have grown in every region of the country this year: from 4.0% in New England to 0.9% in the East South Central division.

This shows median wage growth rates within worker for each Census division less division's consumer price index growth rate.
