I don't think theres much wrong with the actual design pattern or traits itself,, perhaps they've been lacking in the creature proportions to hit that vibe

I keep thinking how recent pokemon starters can be improved well by just changing the shapes/silhoutte design and this keeps being proved by the wonderful fanarts that I've been seeing,,
