Teaching isn't a calling, it's a job...a job with great holidays and pays for me to go to a pub on a Sunday evening with my family to do a pub quiz. It's impossible to do a perfect job, so I'm not trying anymore. Life is for living even if you're a teacher. Don't kill yourself, love life and live it

It's only a few days now until alarms are off and the holiday begins. It's been a long term!

Sitting at my desk marking and I discovered 3 reasons why I know I need to lose weight. Firstly, trying to take your jumper off and you can't; you keep trying and eventually succeed and realise it was stuck on your belly sticking out from your trousers. I realised I didn't need another 2 reasons!

Had the night off and, apart from planning lessons, did nothing else and instead had a photography session with my daughter. Literally the first night off in 3 weeks and I feel so much better! Lesson...always take time for yourself.

Before school, break time (or recession for those from America) lunch time, after school...marking, marking, marking. Mock exam time is always busy. Only another 24 LP1s to go. 😬

My Sunday. Marking is essential but THE most utterly boring and time consuming part of the job.

When you're entire school's focus is changing, it's hard to know where to start in your own leadership role. And what happens if your priority isn't the same as your line manager's?

Additionally, try answering a written maths question without English. 😁

I'd argue that it shows you can apply a learnt formula to a maths problem. English means you have to have to have a large vocabulary, a good indicator of learning, and the ability to think logically, abstractly, outside the box and lots of other ways. That's why it's harder to get a 9 in English.

Walking the talk Well hello there, and welcome to update #091!

New post:

Walking the talk:

Why has there been a tendency to privilege writing over speaking & listening?

While oracy has recently gone further up the agenda, it’s odd that high quality talk in classrooms has often been regarded as an optional extra...

Download past papers and examiners reports. AQA also do training for language papers. TES resources, Teachit, Twinkle, Litdrive, go to an AI generator like chat GPT or Gemini Ai and ask it to give you a list of websites that offer free gcse language resources. Hope this helps.

As Don Moyer illustrated in the HBR, we spend a lot of time and money in developing people's expertise over the length of a career β€” and then lose it all when they leave because of no system in which it is passed on.

Can anyone recommend any good online training for teaching organic chemistry at A level? Since my colleague left who taught all the organic I've been left teaching it, but it's not my strength - I'm better at Physical and Inorganic. I could do with brushing up my knowledge and skills #ChatChemistry
