Melbourne comedy festival turns 40: tell us your most chaotic stories – from the audience or the stage We want to hear about the funniest, strangest or most disastrous moments in 40 years of MICF history – whether you are a punter, crew member or comedian The Melbourne international comedy festival takes over the city from 25 March: the world’s largest dedicated comedy festival, celebrating its milestone 40th year. That’s a long history for such an enormous event, and we want to hear the best stories from its storied past. Not just the funniest gags as experienced by the crowd (although we’re keen for those as well), but the mishaps, the bombs and the backstage bedlam too. There are a bunch of favourites on this year’s program – names like David O’Doherty, Michelle Brasier, Nazeem Hussain, Chloe Petts, Lizzy Hoo, Scout Boxall, Wil Anderson and Mark Watson. And if any of those folk are reading this: we want to hear from you too. Give us your best below. Continue reading...

After re-watching #Deadloch, it really brought home how they use violence within the visual language of the show as a whole.

As someone who watches a lot of crime procedurals/dramas, the sheer amount of explicit and brutal violence shown on screen when it happens to women is frankly disgusting.

With Guest Tony Martin. They riffed off Tony's life stories and for a minute there, it felt a little like Playback Theatre company who used to help people recover from trauma by acting it out for them, only with laser discs.

Hello friends. I’ve spent most of the day previewing season two of DEADLOCH (Fri 20/03 Prime Video), and while I can’t tell you anything about it yet I can say if you loved the first season you’ll *LOVE* the second one. β€οΈπŸ™ŒπŸ”₯

Vale: Ted Emery | TV Tonight Legendary Australian comedy director Ted Emery, best known for Kath and Kim, Fast Forward and Countdown, has died.

RIP to the great Ted Emery, as funny as the dozens of TV comedies he directed. All who worked with him will miss his no-nonsense style, kindness, and many, many x-rated stories about working on β€˜Countdown’. tvtonight.com.au/2026/03/vale...

An important question here is why some "expert" imagined these two cunts were worth $20 million a year for 10 years.

We watched the 70s episode ("Fade in to Murder") of Columbo featuring William Shatner as Ward Fowler last night and I had heard before that a pencil drawing of James T. Kirk is seen in Fowler's mansion. So here he is, Captain Kirk on Columbo in all the shots where the drawing is seen. :-)

We certainly have - directing comedy is such a special skill and Ted Emery was so brilliant at it.
Condolences to all my comedy friends who will be remembering their partnership with Ted in bringing the laughs over so many years.
Vale xx

The Gay Man Who Ruled Australian Television
The Gay Man Who Ruled Australian Television YouTube video by Notes on Australian Camp

An interesting video essay about the life of Australian 20thC TV host Graham Kennedy from a queer perspective. I grew up watching Blankety Blanks on repeat & his comedy news show felt really fresh & exciting, like he was (quietly) running amok in a news room being hilarious. youtu.be/5t_cYM1cqEo?...
