Melbourne comedy festival turns 40: tell us your most chaotic stories β from the audience or the stage
After re-watching #Deadloch, it really brought home how they use violence within the visual language of the show as a whole.
As someone who watches a lot of crime procedurals/dramas, the sheer amount of explicit and brutal violence shown on screen when it happens to women is frankly disgusting.

With Guest Tony Martin. They riffed off Tony's life stories and for a minute there, it felt a little like Playback Theatre company who used to help people recover from trauma by acting it out for them, only with laser discs.
Members of the Something Good Improv crew Amy Ruffle, Millie Holten and Barney Pollock in front of the blue curtain at Comedy Republic. In the middle is guest Tony Martin.
One more from Something Good Improv Comedy @comedyrepublic.bsky.social tonight, because it's not too blurry. Amy Ruffle, Millie Holten & Barney Pollock.
Millie Houlten with curly hair, wearing a striped tshirt and rust is looking at salt and pepper haired Tony Martin in a short sleeved red & white spotted shirt doing a rendition of Happy Talk from South Pacific, I think. Some dark shadows of audience members down the bottom.
Tonight at Something Good Improve Comedy, comedy legend @tonymartin.bsky.social improvising with up and coming, future legend, Millie Houlton.
The Something Good Improv Comedy Crew with Tony Martin in the centre. All are looking at Ben Russell on the far right. There's an audience watching at the lower front and the curtain behind them is blue.

RIP to the great Ted Emery, as funny as the dozens of TV comedies he directed. All who worked with him will miss his no-nonsense style, kindness, and many, many x-rated stories about working on βCountdownβ. tvtonight.com.au/2026/03/vale...

An important question here is why some "expert" imagined these two cunts were worth $20 million a year for 10 years.
Oh that just made me do a spit take. Hilarious!!
He thought they'd be providing a bright spot in the darkness (by going away like a particularly dark cloud)
We watched the 70s episode ("Fade in to Murder") of Columbo featuring William Shatner as Ward Fowler last night and I had heard before that a pencil drawing of James T. Kirk is seen in Fowler's mansion. So here he is, Captain Kirk on Columbo in all the shots where the drawing is seen. :-)
We certainly have - directing comedy is such a special skill and Ted Emery was so brilliant at it.
Condolences to all my comedy friends who will be remembering their partnership with Ted in bringing the laughs over so many years.
Vale xx
Weβve lost a legend in Australian TV comedy.
We've still got 74 years to go.

Friends, I got the previews to all six episodes of DEADLOCH season two and I can't talk about them until March 18 AND WHAT THE HELL EVEN ARE EMBARGOES FOR YOU BASIC IDIOTS?!
An interesting video essay about the life of Australian 20thC TV host Graham Kennedy from a queer perspective. I grew up watching Blankety Blanks on repeat & his comedy news show felt really fresh & exciting, like he was (quietly) running amok in a news room being hilarious. youtu.be/5t_cYM1cqEo?...
