I believe fern enthusiasts are called pteridomaniacs, at least they were in Victorian times!
Whether itβs a first Lesser Celandine flower of the year or Elder leaves unfurling. The first #WildflowerHour challenge of the year is to spot #SignsOfSpring! Share your finds this Sunday 8-9pm. Below is the link if you would like to record your #NaturesCalendar sightings β¬οΈ @bsbibotany.bsky.social
With the mild weather, more and more flowers are popping up β like my first lesser celandine, dandelion, Primrose, Cornelian cherry, Fingered speedwell, and Wall speedwell.
Thanks to #WildflowerHour for this fab #TheWinter10 β I really enjoyed it! π
Itβs Sunday & itβs 8pm, so it must be time for #wildflowerhour! Please share your pics of the wild & naturalised blooms youβve found from across Britain & Ireland in the last week! Did you manage to spot the last #thewinter10?
I sometimes don't have to travel very far for #WildflowerHour! A lovely patch of Sweet Violet, Viola odorata, in my road. π
Wonderful splashes of Coltsfoot, Fran! It doesn't seem to grow in my immediate area; at least I've yet to find it.
Splashes of Coltsfoot sunshine beside the Kennet & Avon canal for #WildflowerHour
1st March says Spring to me, as do these: Cherry Plum, Primrose, Greater Horsetail, Opposite-leaved Golden-saxifrage, Common Whitlowgrass and my first Rue-leaved Saxifrage flowers of the year (a bit blurry in the breeze) #WildflowerHour
Lovely spring finds, Fran! So good to see!
Thank you, Fran! This is earliest I've ever found Toothwort and at a new location no less! I'll be checking my more familiar locations next weekend.
Final #TheWinter10 for this winter from N. Wilts. for this week's #wildflowerhour: Primrose, Toothwort, Early Dog-violet, Sweet Violet, Green Hellebore, Marsh Marigold, Cyclamen coum, Lungwort, Barren Strawberry & Cherry Plum. @bsbibotany.bsky.social @wildflowerhour.bsky.social

Another very wet week in Dorset, so for todayβs #thewinter10 Iβve kept as close to home as possible. All these native and naturalised plants in the hedgerows within 200m of my front door. See ALT text for details @wildflowerhour.bsky.social #WildflowerHour
Thank you very much, Joni! Great to see that you saw Dogβs Mercury and Opposite-leaved Golden Saxifrage too! The latter are only just getting started in my locale.
Many thanks, Fran! It gave me a βwow!β moment when I saw it.
Lovely finds, Fran, usual! Wish I could find fumitories around my locale. Iβve yet to spot any.
#TheWinter10 in N. Wilts. for this week's #wildflowerhour: Lesser Celandine, Summer Snowflake, Primrose, Early Dog-violet, Cherry Plum, Lungwort, Yew (β), Opposite-leaved Golden Saxifrage, Alder (β & β) & Dog's Mercury. @bsbibotany.bsky.social @wildflowerhour.bsky.social
What a gorgeous sight, Rebecca! π€©
I can well imagine!
So mossy and enchanting! ππ
Thank you so much!
What a beauty, Pam! I haven't found the typical pink variety hereabouts yet, let alone the white form!
Sounds about right - too much of a bumpkin! π
Gagea bohemica Early Star-of-Bethlehem at Stanner Rocks! A cheery spark of sunshine in the damp grey welshness. All credit to the volunteer site warden who keeps the habitat open for this and the siteβs other botanical treasures. #Wildflowerhour
Snowdrop Galanthus nivalis in sunshine!
Greater Snowdrop Galanthus elwesii with its broad, hooded leaves
Green Snowdrop Galanthus woronowii, a relative newcomer which is now locally well-established
Peak Snowdrop in Uffington Churchyard
Peak snowdrop time in South Lincolnshire and Peterborough - filling churchyards and popping up on lots of country road verges. Straightforward Snowdrop is most frequently encountered, but Greater Snowdrop and Green Snowdrop seem to be increasing locally
#wildflowerhour @bsbibotany.bsky.social
Early Crocus Crocus tommasinianus
Primrose Primula vulgaris
Winter Aconite Eranthis hyemalis
Corsican Hellebore Helleborus argutifolius
A few more spring flowers to brighten up an utterly cold and miserable February day (though all are looking rather rain-speckled) - Early Crocus, Primrose, Winter Aconite and Corsican Hellebore - all found in local churchyards

Itβs Sunday & itβs 8pm so it must be time for #wildflowerhour but itβs been a grey, soggy week have you spotted anything in bloom? Please share your pics of any wild or naturalised flowers youβve seen this week from across Britain & Ireland!
All great finds and a nice collection of spurges, Fran! I've only found Petty around here at the moment.
