I'm still in the middle of the godot 4 version (basically full engine rewrite in Rust) and even at an incomplete state it's already so good, can't wait to be able to continue my projects on it!

Thank you! I think one of the closest in concept is probably Cait-Sith from Chaos Code, where your puppet followed you but you could set it up then activate it later. Here it's a merchant with her 3 bodyguards!
You'll get used to it ! That's what story mode is for
They each have 6 attacks you do with the corresponding special: launch (first attack when they are attached), tap, and two held attacks depending on your upgrade path (each upgrades separately).
Your passives allow you to cancel from one to another, but you can also use assists to help you set up!
Just in case you were wondering: yes you can control each of the three guys in the back, and they move separately

I think what you're seeing is concurrency / parallelism mostly, with each being as independant as possible from each other, which allows them to run on separate threads with low synchronization overhead

I'm in a similar way and actually burned out on gamedev once by following the advice of "scope super small", but after a long break I realized I'm much more of an engine dev than gameplay dev. I really dislike building code made to be discarded.

I haven't been very vocal about it cuz life's been crazy, but I'm taking part in Jankuary tonight at 6pm EST.
Gonna be messing around with Spider-Man/X-Men: Arcade's Revenge. It's extremely memeful but has a lot of cool stuff under the hood, which I will fail to demonstrate.

Castagne Editor now works!!! It uses IPC to allow for better UX and new possibilities (like network, customization, better crash handling...) and it was tricky.
It's fast enough, but can be improved if needed. I finally got the basics down for the project!!!
Still making progress on compiled Castagne. The editor-engine link is tricky, but I'm getting somewhere with sockets. Working on sending structures properly now, once this is done I can try sending an image for remote viewing.
