The institution of School is not fit for purpose.
In a time of climate breakdown, fascist resurgence, war, and cultural decay, children do not need academics.
They need care.
To place care as its primary focus and academics secondary is the only way schooling remains relevant.
Autism is highly associated with undesirable traits (cause ableism) so the desirable ones were sectioned off into “giftedness” in order to maintain the existing model.
Now that we are (a little) less ableist we can see that they are in fact different expressions of the same complex neurodivergence
