"The news" is a generous way to describe what Bluesky talks about. Reading a real newspaper, you'd miss a lot of the *drama* that captures the very-online imagination.

If the frequency and discourse-to-change ration are high enough, it's basically just reality TV.

No one elevates subtext into text like this guy.

I feel like most of the replies here forget that you can pick who you follow there like you can here.

Sure is beautiful out there right now.

You will be visited by three agents tonight.

So roughly what it takes to get a history doctorate and tenure. Hmmm.

"This place sucks" is like 20% of the discourse on every social media platform.

I think we all participate in a bunch of systems that indirectly support oppression and cruelty and Bluesky's particular focus on X is, in a word, very revealing.

I really think he was looking for likes and agreement, not for a fight, but I agree that it's hard to tell the difference on here, which is, again, kind of the point.

26.12.2025 01:01 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I agree there's a moral case for boycotting Twitter, but I think whether that boycott is morally obligatory is an interesting and difficult question that is functionally off limits on Bluesky.

I think the "very revealing" comment is a perfect example of the tea-leaf mentally that jumps to conclusions about a person's character based on imagined subtext. It's a reasonable point otherwise, but it illustrates how talking politics on Bsky is a real tightrope act.

Idk, it seems reasonable for him to not enjoy the hostility that he's getting here. It's not even directed at me and I don't enjoy it.

26.12.2025 00:26 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Wasn't commenting on Twitter, just that the problems it had came with when people moved to Bluesky.

I find these responses pretty unkind, tbh.

You're totally correct there. The point is that the way ideas and discourse are expressed matters in itself. It's understandable that people are on edge about politics these days, but that does lead to left-leaning circles being uncharitable and frequently toxic.

25.12.2025 23:58 ๐Ÿ‘ 2 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

There's a bit of no-true-Scottsman'ing in suggesting that hostile Leftists belong on X when they're more characteristic of this app than that one.

25.12.2025 23:50 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

His point was "some people will like using Twitter more than Bluesky because the range of topics on which Bsky will allow respectful disagreement is fairly narrow" and the fact that that, in itself, is not something you can say on Bluesky without getting this much vitriol sort of proves the point.

25.12.2025 23:48 ๐Ÿ‘ 8 ๐Ÿ” 1 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 3 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I don't know precisely what the party lines are, but if Itai's point here falls so far outside of it l, then it's got to be a pretty narrow lane.

25.12.2025 23:32 ๐Ÿ‘ 4 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

The fact that Itai's very polite comments here are being received with such hostility is a perfect example.

25.12.2025 23:27 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Respectfully, the very-online Left often treats being atuned to illiberal subtext as a measure of wisdom and virtue, and thereby encourages people to assume the worst of people. It's not equivalent to bigotry by any means, but it certainly doesn't allow for a diversity of perspectives.

25.12.2025 23:26 ๐Ÿ‘ 1 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 2 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

I meant in the academic discourse, but goodness knows this afternoon has made your point about politics clear.

What's better about it, though?

25.12.2025 21:16 ๐Ÿ‘ 0 ๐Ÿ” 0 ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1 ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

Acknowledging the drawbacks of Bluesky, is the experience on X really better in those respects?

"The Only Cybertruck In All Of Uganda" the 4th song on our difficult third album. We tried to go country and / or western.

If I wanted to be fully caught up and have a strong opinion on what you're talking about (starting from zero), how long do you think it would take (in weeks)?

Best one of these I only recently processed was "space shuttle", which comes from textiles.

I think there's a general theory of good discourse somewhere in there in which we model why there's a trade-off between network-size and reply quality and make it much more transparent and salient where any given post sits.
