Firing employees to increase productivity is a paradox. It's like a restaurant owner thinking that if he fires the chef, the food will automatically cook and fly onto the customer's plate.
We went from βwhat good are the humanities?β to βsuddenly, no one can readβ in about a year, and the answer to the first question is the disinformation and lack of critical thinking you see all around you. *That* is why you need the humanities. This is what they prevent.

I miss the days when very rich people used their money to fund libraries, public art and philanthropic endeavors rather than launching slow-motion coups against the federal government.

I taught comp 2 last semester using Sherlock Holmes stories, and one of my students wrote his final paper about how Sherlock and Mycroft both show neurodivergent behavior, specifically ASD. It was a great paper!
In undergrad, I was driving back home from class and suddenly something started telling me that I needed to get off the highway. Luckily I was right near an exit, so I got off. Drove two blocks to a QT and my car died as I was turning in. The fuel pump had gone out.
