My 18yo Trans son decided to leave his birth gender on his ID precisely because he does not trust the government not to weaponize it.

He moves through is life just constantly half-smiling at people who misgender him because he's afraid.

It's worth keeping in mind that Kansas has a strict voter ID law, so this law has essentially instituted a poll tax on all trans people in the state because they have to pay to get their ID replaced.

This gives away the whole game, as people have been warning for years and years. This is identity erasure of a whole class. the precedents for having documents revoked by group…are not good.
