Amazing capture
Wonderful news. I've had one empty food dish so far.
That is so obvious - when someone points it out! Thank you very much. Like the mnemonic for Nuthatch/Tree Creeper. Nuthatch is nutty, goes down the tree head first.
Thank you, my first thought was Pine but better to know rather than guess.
It's another dull grey morning, thank you for this - I suppose it COULD have applied! LOL
7 Spot native Ladybird, black and white head, red wing covers with black spots. The left wing cover is dark and dented, looks injured.
A huddle of 7 Spots on Holly in my garden. Top right there are the beginnings of a bud so hopefully the Holly will flower, Mrs Holly Blue will visit and honour me by leaving eggs. Again, hopefully, if she does, the larvae will not fall victim to parasites as has happened before.
As well as large numbers of 7 Spots, today I saw 6 small black Ladybirds with curved red marks on the wing covers. Not sure if they are Kidney or Pine.
2 7 Spots with a Shieldbug, not sure which, but it looks brown, maybe its winter coat. It appears to be sitting on a Ladybird. I think Shieldbugs are largely vegetarian so hopefully the Ladybirds are safe.
050326 OM1ii #ladybirds increasing in number last few weeks. These are just a few of those seen in my garden or on walkies. #entomology #bugsky #inverts #york #aurelians #uknaturalists #wildlifephotograph #OMSystem
Let's hope. I've not seen many this year on Millennium Fields, Fulford, where I usually see them. Good numbers of Siskin though.
Hence "Ne'er cast a clout 'til May is out"
The library, one of my favourite places. Taking my 20 books back on Saturday and will come home with another 20.
Always a joy to see them, 2 here in my jungle today, sadly no good pictures. But your video more than compensates
Lovely to see them again. Got the first of the year in my garden today with very battered wings, covered in pollen and soaking up the sun.
It's a brilliant (enviable) shot and buckets make superb tripods as do boxes!
Good luck and stay well.
FRom the side the white hairs are visible on the brown shoulders. Black antennae with 3 narrow white bands
Half of the abdomen & chest, pinkish with dark spots
90mm lens + x2 extender. Insect is 11-12mm long. Brown in winter, there's a hint of purple. Black antennae with white bands and ends of legs are also black and white stripes otherwise pale and hairy
From above, 90mm +x2 extender brown colour clearly seen. There's a black and white protruberance on each side, the connexivum or visible edge of the abdomen.
020326 OM1ii my#York gdn. Hairy/Sloe Shieldbug (I think) in its winter coat. 1&2 used 60mm lens, 3&4 90mm +x2 extender. All 15 images stacked in camera. #entomology #bugsky #aurelians #bugmacrophotography #naturelovers #OMSystem
The releases were wonderful, clouds of butterflies over several days to our delight. Messy though until they pupated. Now 20 is my absolute limit and usually Brimstones and their larvae are much better behaved, rarely attempt to escape.
I once raised about 500 Peacock larvae to imago. NEVER AGAIN! Congratulations for your Dewick's Plusia.
Thank you, that's kind and yes, they are indeed awesome, very clever birdies.
I am always happy to learn, many thanks. I use the Super Sixty macro lens, a real gem, as well as the 90mm.
A beautiful, glossy black crow just a few feet away from me foraging for food. Viewed from the side, closer than I've ever been and able to see that the black is not uniform, there are shades of dark grey on chest and back.
Giving me the side eye in disgust for watching. In reality, the nictitating membrane which protects the eye. Bird is crouching close to a plastic shield protecting a young sapling, sadly one of many dead because they were planted in a hot dry spring.
Corvids are known to be clever birds and here it is opening the plastic to get to the shoots inside.
Here it has pulled out the shoot which is still attached to the "trunk" of the sapling. It wasn't able to pull that one free but had detached some shorter ones.
010326 OM1ii Millennium Field #York #yorkbirding #ukbirds #northyorkshirebirds #uknaturalists #wildlifephotography #OMSystem It's taken 80 yrs to appreciate the beauty of the Crow, better late than never, eh! This one, very busy, was only a few feet away, so I stood, watched, point, click, hope.
Thank you, maybe I should get a Raynox...I use 90mm + x2 Extender on my OM1ii. Why didn't they have all this super stuff when I was younger and much less wobbly???
You have created an absolutely superb image.
Except there were only about 5 of those "star" things, weren't there? Don't know how many times I've read that story in my 80 years.
Absolutely brilliant shot of this Gorgeous Girlie. Would you please tell me which camera & lens you used?
So expensive reducing your chocolate intake won't really help, will it, and then there's the travelling expense too...
It's an Ent!
Probably not - oh well.
Window cleaner!
Only a paper, why not a PhD?
The tripod is firmly "planted" and anchored in position for as long as it takes to get my 24 hour ring around Polaris but I think someone has slightly nudged it, millimetres at most, enough to throw it out of focus point. I knew when I started it would take a year - or more!
It was VERY clear so I set up for trails too, hoping to add to my 24 hr project. Unfortunately the tripod has moved very slightly so focus point is slightly off & the 6.5 hrs trails don't stack properly with the existing 12.
ENVY!!!! But I saw my first butterfly today, a lovely Comma.
