The fact that one can ( legally) bet on war - the killing of people, is very telling on our society and our cavalier attitude to death.

Selection of spoons just completed. These are just a little smaller than the usual cooking spoon size. Walnut, Maple and Sapele.
Looks like the tail has just been replaced with no time for paining? In BOS yesterday.
Hilarious. ( I was on the move)
Lovely birds in Logan yesterday. Blues skies too but it was snowing lightly today!
The piles of snow in the supermarket parking lots are something else. (Nashua)
A few midsize to small handcarved spoons finished the oast few days. Walnut and Cherry. The cawl shaped spoons finished has some lovely tiger stripes.
Similar opposites. Sounds Irish but thatβs my ancestry π. Hand-carved in Cherry from our property and these cooking spoons will suit left or right handed folk.
These are mid-size spoons probably useful for cooking sauce or something shallow. Carved in Maple, English Beech (from a broken chair) and Sapele.
It is the day of love after all. Hand carved from many different woods. Happy Valentineβs Day folk.
Carved a pair of salad servers in Walnut. First salad servers for a while.
Any photos?
Challenging the traditional American choc-chip cookies with these. Apricot and candied ginger chunks cookies. Absolutely delicious.
Carved a few eating spoons in Maple, walnut and Sapele. These have quite shallow bowls to give a good mouthfeel compared to my usual cooking spoons.
A Lockheed L-1049G Super Constellation (registration VP-WAW) was famously located at Charles Prince Airport (formerly Mount Hampden) near Salisbury, Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe) during the 1970s. It was used as a flying club clubhouse. The aircraft was reportedly broken up in the 1990s.
Fantastic aircraft. I recall there was one at the Charles Prince airport in Rhodesia. Not airworthy - it was used as a pub. In great condition though. Wonder if itβs still there?
These holy ( Sunday ππ) spoons are in Cherry and Walnut. Havenβt made any of these for a while.
Another sunny but chilly start to the day.
A few more Spurtles carved from spalted Maple.
Three very different spoons just carved. Cherry, Spalted Maple and Maple. The Maple bowl I ( foolishly but deliberately) planned the knot in the center. Very tough and tricky to carve but I am pleased with the result
I have no idea what this double-ended spoon may be used for but it was fun carving from some very dry Walnut.
I put out some seed on a stump for the birds that prefer a more open feeding - mainly for the Juncos. Itβs about 3 feet. Now that the snow is similarly deep another happy customer can access this and comes for the leftovers at night. As you can see he left his calling card.
Maple from the garden allowed me to carve these cooking spoons.
Found the carβ¦β¦..
Sharp tools - donβt have cheap dull knives. Then using wood that is not fully dry while carving is way easier than dry wood. Spend as much time on finishing as you do on the whole carving time.
Couple of small spoons and hearts in birdseye Maple just carved. #spooncarving #handcarving #localwood #busyhands
Pretty cool going to Church this morning - picnic anyone?
Harrisville, NH
Had the Carolina Wren visit very briefly this morning. First one Iβve seen this year.
A selection of hearts fresh from my knife. Aromatic Cedar. The bottom right one indicative of our feelings having just learnt of the sad passing of a dear friend. π₯²
The Spurtle.
A traditional Scottish cooking paddle in use since the 15th century. Mostly used for cooking porridge but quickly becomes the most popular wooden tool for soups, stews - spreading and flipping.
Subtle curves allow access into all spots of your pot or pan.
All handcarved.
