"...and there was something so romantic about a wingless jet, about succumbing to loneliness, surrendering to isolation, and if I were braver and more original I wouldβve broken into the jet..."

"Perhaps each household is allotted a finite amount of joy, as if the wizardβs hands are tied, this is simply the rule of beginnings: Should you acquire giggle and coo, you must forfeit fetch and wag."

Stumbled across this in the morning. Read it with my 12th-grade creative nonfiction class in the afternoon. They loved it as much as I did. Thanks for sharing!

"...Kyle and Annie both understand that the heart is a spider web capable of trapping and feasting on small, beautiful joys..."
It's tricky shifting close 3rd Person POV mid-story, damn near impossible mid-sentence. Yet, @andrew-maynard.bsky.social nails it.

Set out to create the most literary one-sentence story ever written about the intersection of hand jobs and the Olive Garden. Thank you @completesentence.bsky.social for giving this piece a home. And my nephew for making the art. www.completesentencelit.com/post/carbs

Very excited to have a story in @flashfrog.bsky.social, a journal Iβve long admired. Thank you @ericscottryon.bsky.social for the edits and commissioning such perfect artwork! I hope you give it a read

Really enjoyed writing this. Thanks to @essaydaily.bsky.social and @angermonsoon.bsky.social for making a space for essays on essays!
Thanks for reading and sharing!
A fascinating way to think of numbers (and people by extension).
In particular, what it says about the those who like 1 because it means they mirror what they encounter.
XNESS ESSAYS IN A BOOK???????
oh, wow, everything about today's Andrew Maynard short is wonderful, and then that ending!!
"She continues: I like five because you never lose it when it multiplies with something odd. And I think about saying, What if Iβm even?"

Thanks to @havehashad.com for publishing my new short! Give it a read!
Happy 5th Birthday/Anniversary to us! To celebrate, we're doing a submissions call and leaving it open for... five (5!) hours. Which is all to say... Submissions will be open Thursday, August 24, 7am β 12pm (aka noon) ET. A few specifics: Theme: "5" (What does that mean exactly? Surprise me!) 500 words max Any/all genre ok For poems and reeeeal short stuff, you can send two, but make 'em short! NOTE: This is a timed call rather than limiting the quantity so I have no idea how many I'll get. A TON, I bet! Also, I really should be doing class prep. Which is all to say, even though our "thing" is generally to get back to everyone ASAP, and I'm still going to read as fast as possible (when I have time!), making kneejerk decisions, these are probably going to take me a while. A week or two wouldn't surprise me. We'll see! Thanks! πππ Aaron & Crow

Thx. We (heart) (and (skull)) you.

This "thought experiment" from George Saunders has been on my mind often of late: "Is it possible that we have come to feel responsible for too much, for everything, even things outside of our control, and that this makes us feel like gods who have been unfairly disempowered?"
Love this piece!
I wrote about the myriad number of people who worked hard with me for the election and who kept me from the pit of despair after for Essay Daily's Advent Calendar, which already has some amazing essays for your December countdown to solstice. www.essaydaily.org/2024/12/dec-...
