Good morning. As a UK alumni and first generation student, I am sorely disappointed in the university's decision to cancel the First-Generation Student Pinning Ceremony, as well as the Lavender Graduation Ceremony and Harambe Unity Graduation Celebration. If the University of Kentucky wants to capitulate to the Trump administration, who has openly stated they want to destroy higher education, I see no reason to donate. You've fought regulations in court before, but when it comes to DEI, you immediately sacrificed large swaths of your student body and alumni. If you are ceding control of campus to Trump, ask him to pay for it. I will also no longer be recommending UK to other first-generation students when there are institutions who DO stand by their values and their students. Diversity, equity and inclusion kept this university alive; trying to get anti-intellectual, anti-science MAGAs to enroll and pay for research is a losing strategy. Even if these decisions are reversed in 2028, this embarrassing debacle has burned your goodwill with the academic community. Regards,
