"What is required, then, is the radical reimagining of pedagogy. Higher education must reclaim academic freedom, dissent, critical thought, and democratic governance not as abstract principles but as urgent practices of resistance." #HigherEd

CBS News may not want you to see its CECOT reporting, but I'm happy to share this powerful video that our team produced this year.
Children tear-gassed. Teenagers tackled to the ground. Bellingcat analysed footage of clashes between federal officers and civilians after a judge issued a restraining order on crowd-control tactics in Illinois: www.bellingcat.com/news/2025/10...
Seems like a good moment to be revisiting this history

BREAKING: By an apparent 6–3 vote, the Supreme Court halts an injunction that had prevented immigration agents from racially profiling Latinos in central California.
Sotomayor, dissenting, says the decision is "unconscionably irreconcilable with our nation's constitutional guarantees."
Again, they say these troops are there to make the people of the city feel safe

“It isn’t students who shy away from serious discussion – it is powerful elites enraged by the protests against Israel's war on Gaza and determined to restore by force a narrative and political consensus that has collapsed under the weight of genocide” — excellent piece by @abuaardvark.bsky.social
And my final mini lecture in what I call "college 101" series is How To Study:
It's insane how this administration is shaking down colleges for admitting too many students of color by citing alleged racial discrimination while simultaneously petitioning the Supreme Court to allow them to profile and detain anyone with skin darker than mayonnaise.
1. The Everglades detention camp, known as Alligator Alcatraz, has become a LEGAL BLACK HOLE.
Hundreds of people are being held at the facility without charges, without access to attorneys, and without the ability to contest their detention in court.

A philosophy professor was assaulted and abducted by ICE while protesting the agency's raid on a farm near his university.
Laura Loomer‘s tweet: Alligator lives matter. The good news is, alligators are guaranteed at least 65 million meals if we get started now.
The entire Latino population in the U.S. is 65 million. She means all of us.

New — I wrote about the injustice unfolding before our eyes as rich reality stars are pardoned for their crimes while law-abiding immigrants are rounded up and caged by ICE, and the way communities are rising up to say fuck no.
A super fascinating conversation between @talia-mae.bsky.social, @hilmalatino.bsky.social, PJ DiPietro and Andrea Pitts. Some great house pets even make an appearance in the last 30 minutes or so.

Always getting those lists of Most Cited Philosophers or Works Featuring in the SEP Most Often or whatever and when you look there's never nothing by any women or POC. Well, finally, thanks to President Trump, a list of philosophical works has come out which heavily features women and black people!
There's probably a Signal chat specifically made for this.

These notes from universities aren't just useless and cowardly, they're actively dangerous at this point! Your university isn't a "community" if it's allowing people to be abducted off the street because of an op-ed.
Real answer is to reallocate all university resources until the student is freed.
“The trick of Trump’s rhetoric is to look back at moves elites made to cover their DEI bases, hail those as hollow, then channel resentment created by those moves to solidify actual elite power, which lies in money—and the political institutions that control who has access to earning it.”
