Yes, finding the paintings is a bit of a long shot - as the artist had some worthy commissions we thought there might be a small chance - my guess is the paintings did survive however unless a museum/gallery has them, you are likely correct in that they are squirreled away in a private collection.

Drummond apparently specialized in marine and portrait paintings; our ancestor Timothy Topping was deputy storekeeper at The Gunwharf, Devonport, Plymouth, Devon, England. Drummondβs daughter was a miniaturist painter.
Charles Topping was a lawyer in Maidstone, Kent and his brother was Timothy (our ancestor).
Of course, it would be FABULOUS to find this painting centuries later. A quick internet search of the Maidstone, Kent artist βSamuel Drummondβ (1766-1844) reveals numerous paintings that
