There is a large Elecampane flower in the centre of the picture. This is bright yellow with long thin petals and a yellow centre. There is a Bumblebee and large Hoverfly feeding from the flower. The background shows a tree and hedgerow with a pale blue sky beyond. There is also a chunky green with red markings Elecampane bud in the bottom left hand. Elecampane info.: Elecampane is a tall, impressive plant, (up to 2 metres), with large leaves, (up to 60cm long), and large yellow flowers which are loved by Bumblebees and Hoverflies. It does take a couple of years to reach full size and it's likely it won't produce flowers in its first year but it is worth waiting for. Elecampane has also been called Elf Wort, Elf Dock and Horse Heal. The root has been used in herbal medicine to treat respiratory disorders and up until the early 20th century, was used as a flavouring for sweets. Elecampane attracts Bees, Hoverflies and Ground Beetles. It is an RHS "Plants for Pollinators" plants. Seeds available from our shop at www.jemimasgarden.co.uk
