Come do cool science with us!
Bluesky: we stored PhCH2Br over molecular sieves for several months at room temp in an amber bottle in the glovebox and now have an orange tacky solid that pops and set off our O2 sensor. My best guess is radical bromide elimination followed by polymerization. What happened?
When in doubt, read the book!
Organometallics people: does anyone have a good, quantitative, apples to apples reference for a late metal hydride vs alkyl BDE reference? I know Marks has one for early metals but itβs been hard for me to find one for late metals.
We will be sad to see our REU student Maya leave but she did some fantastic work with Cu(I) and got her first crystal structure on her final day!
Does anyone have a good reference for using the magnitude of 1H-31P 1J coupling constants for making structural assignments?
Wow! I was a DJ there when they were in the basement of Friley Hall. That was where I got like half of my ITunes music.
Does KURE still live???!!!
End of the semester lab lunch!
I graduated in 2011 and yeah, the Arb was great! Ughβ¦ I miss Ames circa 2010. The Spud from Jeffβs, Es Tas frybread tacos, $1 Old Main Beers on Welch Ave. What a time to be alive! Oh!!! And Superdog!!!
I lived at Arbor Hills so it was also like a one block walk. My memory could be off, but I think that also was where fighting/flying burrito was before they moved to campus town. Again, RIP to a real one.
I would got there like every Thursday night junior year of college π’

Off the top of my head, D3d?
Our paper on triplet pnictinidenes (P, As, Sb) with transition metal substituents is out; congrats to Marc, Nils, Tarek and Rich and thanks to all that have contributed to get a comprehensive electronic structure picture @haenisch-group.bsky.social
