Indeed. Some shift away from the exceptional levels of overseas recruitment 21-24 was natural/desirable.
But current "strategy" - no new visas and making life as unpleasant as possible for migrants already here - is madness.

In 'Anywhere But Here', I spoke to families whose loved ones died or were still missing, years on from the incident. I also spent time with the coastguard to hear what life is really like for them day to day.
Cranston's findings in the long-awaited report: “This represents a significant, systemic failure on the part of government.”
The Cranston Inquiry has found that "loss of life was avoidable" in HM Coastguard's response to the mass drowning in Nov 2021,in which 33 people lost their lives.
I spoke to a senior coastguard who described 20-hour days, understaffed, overworked. "Intolerable" indeed.

In news which surprises no-one who actually understands migration, cutting it undermines the whole economy. Even reductions which remain above the mythical political idea of "zero net" have fundamental impacts. Not least, because migrants actually create jobs.

There are anti raids networks at a local level but yes, a more national approach definitely.
