Professor Robin Weiss smiling in a lab.
We're remembering Professor Robin Weiss, who passed away last month.
Robin was a pioneer of research into virus-associated cancers and HIV/AIDS, who had a transformational impact on the ICR, as our Director in the 1980s.

This is a huge loss for UK virology, and for the whole scientific community

this is a great opportunity to work with @dottorinireslab.bsky.social , our fantastic new colleague at KCL
Science funding needs fixing β but not through chaotic reforms www.nature.com/articles/d41...
UKRI still doesn't provide clear timelines to reopen applications. This uncertainty is utterly unnecessary and is harming a lot of excellent science in the UK
Why did the American audience apparently hear different audio of JD Vance's appearance at the Olympics than the audio heard by the rest of the world?
NBC denies muting. But it's part of overall disturbing developments in the US corporate media world.
Our bizarre, self-inflicted science funding crisis is finally getting some attention in the general media.

Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeareβs Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again.

UKRI funding has been eaten by inflation for more than a decade. Just put more cash into the system for project grants, or UK science won't recover from the current catastrophe
Now: Bruce Springsteen sings βStreets of Minneapolisβ in Minneapolis
Yeah so, I really want to see all my non-American friends as much and as soon as possible, but I also want them to not be here for the βraw sewageβ situation. Sh*t is not okay over here, friends.
this is about time, there have been plenty of wake up calls before this tragedy
A beautiful poem by the woman murdered by ICE. I feel rage and aching and horror. It isnβt more awful because she wrote this, but it is heartbreaking and tragic in an almost tangible way to read her poetry.

Weβre in an era of back-yardism. Trumpβs takeover of Venezuela & maybe Greenland means he canβt logically object to Putinβs desire to take back Ukraine in Russiaβs back-yard, or Xi grabbing Taiwan. The US, once the worldβs moral super-power, shrinks to policeman for the Americas.
We are recruiting a Reader/Professor of Immunobiology at @kingslsm.bsky.social . This is a unique opportunity to shape basic immunology at @kingscollegelondon.bsky.social . Please RP.

it is a very nice piece of work. NoCut rocks!
Fantastic Inaugural Lectures by Katie Doores and Patricia Barral
@barrallab.bsky.social . It is a real privilege to have colleagues like them at @kingslsm.bsky.social .
it was a pleasure to write this spotlight article. Many questions remain about sensing of missegregated DNA by NoCut, but the @longchrom.bsky.social lab makes exciting progress. They put the helicases Srs2/PARI in the picture, suggesting new mechanisms for genome protection.
these are really sad news. Antonio Garcia Bellido was a scientific giant, he paved the way to world class science in Spain. His pioneering work in Developmental Biology was truly revolutionary
that trust won't go well in the White House. Why having the BBC if you can spread fake BS?
it would be good if we were equally alarmed by a certain Prince walking free, worry less about the palace we pay for him and more about the danger to his victims

very well indeed. Chemo and the oncologists at the NHS did a wonderful job

New Home Office figures show a rise of 50% in citizenship applications from Americans β putting it at the highest since records began. In my view, you canβt have too many open-minded Americans in your country β theyβre the best of the best.
