Needless to say that we dodged a bullet with this one. This dean was obsessed with "public intellectuals" and saw Naomi Wolf's big public profile as something that all the humanities scholars at Stony Brook should aspire to. He was eventually banished to Nebraska to become a provost there.

This happened at my school, SUNY Stony Brook, in the mid-2010's. The real story is that a clueless dean tried to foist her as a hire on the English Department, which never wanted her. That same awful dean later resigned in disgrace (for this and other more significant reasons).

I'm referring to Houghton Mifflin withdrawing her book after it was already published (2019). The idiot dean was obsessed with "public intellectuals" and wanted the humanities professors at Stony Brook to be more like Naomi Wolf.

That's my university (SUNY Stony Brook). The real story is that an awful dean tried to force the English department to hire her, despite her meagre credentials--this was prior her book scandal. The department successfully resisted her appointment, and the dean was later forced to resign.
