We welcome the news that the Government is committing to ensure all primary schools have libraries by 2029. Please don't forget librarians. To build a school reading culture you need trained staff. @sla.org.uk #GreatSchoolLibraries www.thebookseller.com/news/governm...
We clearly support The Year of Reading 2026 and promote Reading for Pleasure. But remember, it's also important to let kids pick what they read for fun. It doesn't matter if a book is "too easy".
Reading for pleasure should be fun. Joy and fun fuels a lifelong reader. β€οΈ

I'd love to see them recruit Regional Reading Ambassadors for this - children's authors sent to schools and libraries to host book clubs, run reading workshops and activities around books, make kids feel like reading isn't just another step in becoming a Good Little Employee once school is done
Perfectly expressed. Any meaningful drive to re-engage children with reading for pleasure must look to invest in existing professional hubs of literature- libraries & school libraries. (And resurrect the ones we lost). And their staff.
Today I'm sharing nine completely captivating middle grade adventures that will get kids reading this summer! Find my reviews on the link below:

The image shows the cover of NETTLE by Bex Hogan - a girl standing in a faery realm, with a castle and two moons in the distance. She carries a cloak made of nettles. The paperback edition is coming 10th July 2025. Cover illustration by Laura El.
The paperback edition of NETTLE is coming next week! I absolutely adore the slight differences to the hardback, both are so beautiful in their own right! Pre-order your copy now!

What a great cover, Bex!
A cover for OWL KING by Bex Hogan. It is a picture of a faery climbing steps towards a mysterious door, surrounded by trees and feathers. An owl lurks in the corner. All in reds and blues.
