Air pollution graphics for central Paris between 2007 and 2023.

Air pollution has dropped significantly in #Paris in the last 15 years as a result of a deliberate strategy. Mayor @annehidalgo.bsky.social’s leadership has traded car space for green space, safe bike space, kid space.. and traded pollution for people.

Good trade.

Living in southern China or HK, you become aware that every approaching typhoon first has to hit the Philippines, which absorbs the worst of it. It's a brutal slice of hardwired planetary injustice. Four typhoons in 10 days is another level.

Mapped: How climate change affects extreme weather around the world - Carbon Brief Attribution studies calculate whether, and by how much, climate change affected the intensity, frequency or impact of extremes – Carbon Brief has mapped every published study on how climate change has...

Today, @carbonbrief.org has published the latest, and most comprehensive, update to our interactive map of extreme weather attribution.

The redesigned map now includes almost 750 extreme events and trends from more than 600 studies.

The 1.5C Climate Goal Is Dead. Why Is COP29 Still Talking About It? Politicians and green advocates want to keep the focus on limiting global warming to 1.5C, even though scientists say the planet is already on track to soon breach the target.

Yes, the separation between scientists & policy / advocates is stark: "Politicians & green advocates want to keep the focus on limiting global warming to 1.5C, even though scientists say the planet is already on track to soon breach the target"

The aspirational climate target of limiting warming to 1.5Β°C has slipped out of reach, but scientists say it's "not time to give up"! Urgent action is needed to bend the trajectory from 2.5-2.9Β°C today down to 2Β°C a new report warns. Featuring @glenpeters.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2024/11/14/c...

πŸ“’Global Carbon Budget 2024πŸ“’

Despite some predicting a peak in global fossil CO2 emissions, we estimate growth of 0.8% [-0.3% to 1.9%] in 2024. Maybe a peak next year?

Is it all bad news, or can we find some good news?
