The thing about the womenβs hockey team declining the SOTU invitation is in part that sometimes, if you do not need certain kinds of power, you get to retain others.

What's more shocking than ICE's plan to cram as many 8,500 humans into massive, soul-crushing warehouses?
Seeing the actual DHS floor plan that echoes slavery ships and history's worst gulags with no rec space but a gun range for guards

There's a few likely consequences of having free buses...and they will probably surprise you! Really happy to be able to share this perspective today in the New York Times.

Just when I thought weβve heard the worse of itβ¦
And 23 days later I am reconsidering my position on this
Theyβre taking children from Minnesota and locking them up like criminals in detention camps in Texas.
For the love of God, send our kids home and bring an end to this nightmare.

In Erie, PA tonight, vigil for Alex Pretti
βAbolishβ or βdefundβ aren't within grasp in 2026. But where are:
- End qualified immunity
- Rewrite use-of-force so this crap isn't ruled βwithin policyβ
- Overturn July 8 mandatory detention memo
- Reinstate TPS
- Open up detention centers, enforce humane conditions
He doesnβt even *ask* for it.
I spent the evening outside the Whipple federal building in Minneapolis, where the feds have been releasing people they detained β often for no discernible reason β into the freezing cold... wearing whatever little clothing they had on at the time they were taken.
This much is clear: Stephen Miller is in charge. They've shipped off Bovino, they're hanging Noem out to dry, Trump is using slightly conciliatory language...and Miller is still running a blitzkrieg in Minnesota. He, not Trump, is in charge. And he is the one Democrats should fight to remove.
Amid growing calls for the abolition of ICE, Rep. Delia Ramirez is calling for the entire DHS to be dismantled. Highlighting how much experience the officers who killed Renee Good and Alex Pretti had, Ramirez said, βDHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity.β
There's a prison revolt at a concentration camp in Texas in solidarity with Minneapolis:
YOUR PHONE CALLS TO THE SENATE ARE WORKING. KEEP CALLING.

Three Democrats who previously broke with the party and voted with the GOP are now saying they will not vote for the bill. Thatβs enough for the bill to be unpassable right now.
BREAKING: I just introduced a discharge petition to force a vote on extending TPS for Haiti.
Our Haitian neighbors deserve to continue their essential work & contributions to our communities.
And if Donald Trump wonβt act to protect Haitian lives, then Congress must.
A powerful paragraph: Tom Nichols @radiofreetom.bsky.social
There is a reason heβs forced to cause all of this chaos. He has NO PLAN. He funds no programs, no healthcare, no education, no lower prices, money coming in only supports more chaos. He envies other dictators. I challenge ANYONE to tell me just one single thing heβs accomplished? Discussion open
I genuinely don't understood how America took the emoluments clause -- the common-sense bar on a president using his powers to line his own pockets, a law children can understand -- and just said, nah, that doesn't apply for our Very Special Boy.
"This Week in Democracy β Week 52: A Year of Abuses, Violence, Corruption, and Outright Fascism"
Capping off a year of Zeteo's project to document the ongoing growth of authoritarianism in Trump's second term.
(No other media organization did this, by the way!)
Law profsβshare this with your 1Ls. This is the kind of thing that gives them hope and a reason to feel line there is still a reason to study law and develop legal writing skills.
"It seems ridiculous that we even have to say this, but Democrats shouldnβt affirmatively fund a government thatβs terrorizing their constituents with a secret police force."
Hey folks Calvary Food Shelf has been helping out people in Minneapolis for 30 years, and now theyβre ramping up to meet the crisis, including doing home deliveries so people donβt have to risk going out.
Theyβre just over halfway to their current goalβletβs get them all the way, shall we?
At least Obama's hypothetical Death Panels would have decided who deserved to die based on a rubric more complicated than "did they just piss off a high school dropout armed by the state"
Trump speaking to reporters about Greenland: "There's not a thing Denmark can do about it"
Same language found in the Epstein files
And now Erie County should follow suit @rockcopeland.bsky.social
BREAKING: Dan Ceisler, the new sheriff of Pennsylvania's Bucks County, just announced he has terminated his county's 287(g) contract with ICE.
Ceisler defeated GOP sheriff who'd joined the ICE program in November, & ran on quitting it; we reported then:
True Blood series
New video shows ICE agents detaining a US citizen legal observer in Minneapolis.
The agents smashed his car window, dragged him out, and placed a knee on his neck.
there needs to be a sex offender registry but for ice guys. you should have to go door to door when you move to a new area and inform your neighbors that you used to be an ice guy. they shouldn't be allowed with 500 feet of a school
AOC: This has now become what we feared most about ICE for a long timeβthat it would be used as an anti-civilian force with no accountability. At the end of the day, what we saw today was a murder, and murders in cold blood need to be prosecuted.
