The Color Draining From His Body. I have been so upset by the world. My first response was to shut down. This is about that happening. But I can’t. So I’m creating. I think my work is political by challenging toxic masculinity. I hope it contributes to positive change.
Not sure what to call this new series…
This piece is about ghosts. Chasing ghosts, idealizing what’s not present, living in hunger. But also appreciating. A drawing of an ideal and a photograph of an idealized man who died too soon.
The Jungle Line. Part of a new series I am working on. This is a drawing of a man mixed with a woodcut. Integration. I have a new website saullyons.com
New work
I much prefer the roughness and complexity and adventure that comes from being raw and real.
That’s something I have always noticed about toxic masculinity. It’s always staged. It’s framed carefully. It’s managed. That feeling of “doing something the right way” is oppressively present in everything, and I think that ties into authoritarianism and what we are all facing today.
Torn paper. This is right out of a sketchbook. I really love this drawing. It sold ages ago. I was happy to let it go, but I was sent this shot as a keepsake. A lot of people who have framed their pieces do so exposing that it’s from a sketchbook. They appreciate the rawness.
Defiance. I have decided to post artwork every day. It's been a while since I did that- censorship on other platforms and just in general that's happening got me down. But I am done with that.
What connects these two images?
Wow. I think that’s very interesting.
My work is featured in Inspiro!
What a wonderful compliment! Thank you so much.
Looking.
An older rough sketch I still like
Drawing of a stranger. I don’t know this guy, but I loved his look. He’s Italian but almost looks Scandinavian and I was drawn to whatever it is that he’s expressing in that look. What is it he’s seeing? What’s that feeling?
I always wanted to have more chest hair, and maybe a bigger cock. But we get what we get and at this point I am very glad I am still just standing.
Lark. Graphite on Paper. Older drawing I just came across. It’s very rough but I like it.
Breathe.
That’s actually a shredded cat toy. We have 2 cats.
Yes
Great shot!
I don’t know who that is but now I’ll definitely check him out!
Mutual Core. Graphite on Paper.
So incredibly sexy.
Work in progress.
Hi cute guy.
Yes
Nice way to start the day.
Fast Slow Disco…
