Together, we explored how reference strains of the pathogenic yeast, Candida glabrata, alter gene expression, cell wall composition, and host interactions after a short period of fluconazole or voriconazole treatment. Great teamwork, check it out!

New preprint! This work is Gabriela Fior Ribeiro's second first-author manuscript, @logantom.bsky.social's first manuscript, and is the culmination of our long-standing collaboration with @ewjwallace.bsky.social's group at University of Edinburgh.

Request for my fellow fungal researchers! Do you have a tote bag from Asilomar 2024 hanging around that you donβt use/want? A friend has lost theirs and theyβre gutted
While perturbing the C. glabrata mannan cell wall layer seemed slightly host-protective in oral epithelial infection models, it led to much worse outcomes systemically.
*This work was also supported by Helen Heaney and discussions with @theafg.bsky.social.
**New paper alert!
I'm so proud of Gabriela Ribeiro's paper from her PhD work. Big thanks to our amazing KCL colleagues, Emily and Jon. Together we showed how the N. glabratus/C. glabrata cell wall can alter host outcomes in diverse infection models.

PhD alert! Know a promising student who wants to do an interdisciplinary, funded PhD guided by experts in microbiology, antifungal drug resistance and chemistry? Please send them our way: www.findaphd.com/phds/project...
That's with @jusher.bsky.social btw! Don't trust me with the social media π
Paper alert! Great collaboration with Jane Usher about fungal metabolism and disease: journals.plos.org/plospathogen...
That feeling that with every step βthis is the time it will get betterβ and then realizing - nope. Itβs systemic. Itβs exhausting. We need to talk about it. But if you do- youβre the problem.
Better late than never!
